Common Core Timeline

Last Update 4/7/14: I will continually update this page with new information in the Timeline. Feel free to contribute in comments, if it fits the purpose, I’ll try to add it to the Timeline. All new items will be noted by the date showing in green text or by this symbol ◉ to differentiate it from original content posted March 30, 2014

For your convenience:

CSCOPE Texas (CSCOPE is a part of the Common Core web)

Common Core has many players in the background that most of us are not aware of. This has been a long-time coming, and a hard-sell for a vast cast of Progressives, but sell it they did, and eventually it received the clueless support of state Governors and departments of Education who thought Race-to-the-Top bribes would shore up state education coffers. Surely, no one would teach that the Boston Tea Party was a terrorist action or that Allah is “God,” or that Shariah law provides for the poor and has an exceptional code of moral conduct. Who would believe that could happen in America, but it did. These soldiers for socialism never drop-out. They started movements years ago, networked and are still key players. Below is a timeline showing interconnectedness of programs like CSCOPE (graphic below) culminating in Common Core, the fundamental transformation of education, including determining who your child becomes. Common Core is about racial justice, social justice, education justice, and education debt. You owe it, “they” don’t. Can’t figure out how this happened in your state? It’s all about the money (explained below). If you have time for nothing else, read the very last paragraph.

1947, The Educational Testing Service (ETS) is founded in New Jersey. Over the long years of then, a non-profit, there is a lot of baggage alluding to undue profits. I’ll save that for a later date.

1964, The International Baccalaureate (IB) program was founded in Geneva, Switzerland. Beginning with only high school programs it has now extended to K-12. Switzerland is a socialist-leaning country, if you think not, you’re wrong. A vote of citizens on a guaranteed monthly income, no strings attached, if you breath and you qualify, is pending. At stake is a $2,800 check from the government, each and every month, forever. It’s called “basic income.” According to Business Insider, the “basic income” replaces welfare. Here is one example of how the IB works in American schools today:

Students striving for the full IB diploma have to write an extended essay, complete a Theory of Knowledge class which includes a TOK presentation and essay and complete a Creativity Action Service project on top of completing all their coursework requirements. Each IB class also requires an internal assessment and external assessment. Source: The Squall

Is there a political ideology behind the essay and/or the program? If your child is pro-American, pro-Christianity, pro-First and Second Amendments, does he/she have a shot at the IB?

Andrew Macdonald has just been appointed the IBs Chief Schools Officer (CSO) which is Common Core, and the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO).

1966, The Erickson Institute was founded. Valerie Bowman Jarrett’s mother Barbara Taylor Bowman is one of the co-founders. Bill Ayers’ father, Thomas Ayers served as a trustee of the Institute and a member of the executive committee. Bill Ayers and his co-terrorist wife, Bernardine Ayers also served on the Erickson board. Do you still think there is no strong tie between Barack Obama and Bill Ayers?

1968, The Gamaliel Foundation was founded to support the Contract Buyers League, an African-American organization advocating on behalf of black Chicago homeowners.

In the mid-1980s, Galluzzo [former Jesuit priest Gregory Galluzzo] served as a mentor for a young Barack Obama during the latter’s organizing days in Chicago. The Developing Communities Project, where Obama first worked as an organizer, was (and still is) part of the Gamaliel network. By early 1988, Obama had become a consultant for, and a trainer of, GF community organizers; he would maintain his ties to Gamaliel throughout his years in the U.S. Senate. As Galluzzo said shortly after Obama was elected President in 2008: “Barack has acknowledged publicly that he had been the director of a Gamaliel affiliate. He has supported Gamaliel throughout the years by conducting training [and attending] our public meetings.”

In 2001, Dennis Jacobsen, director of Gamaliel’s National Clergy Caucus, published Doing Justice: Congregations and Community Organizing,

Galluzzo was replaced by Ana Garcia-Ashley.

See the Gamaliel Foundation chanting “Hear Our Prayer, Obama.

1974, Valerie Bowman (Jarrett) graduated Stanford University

1981, Valerie Bowman (Jarrett) graduated University of Michigan Law School

1983, Valerie Bowman (Jarrett) married William Robert Jarrett. Valerie described her husband as someone she had known all her life — “the boy next door.” Her new father-in-law Vernon Jarrett, (whom she had known all her life) was a “key member of the South Chicago communist left…”

After graduating from Knoxville College in Tennessee, [Vernon] Jarrett moved to Chicago in 1946 to work as a journalist. On his first day on the job at the radical Chicago Defender, he was sent to cover a race riot.

The Defender was heavily influenced by the Communist Party USA and included on its roster well known Chicago Communist Party member Frank Marshall Davis.

Jarrett and Davis worked on the Defender around the same time. They certainly knew each other through the Communist Party and its fronts.

In June 1946, Vernon Jarrett was elected to the Illinois Council of the Communist Party’s youth wing, then known as American Youth for Democracy. This is according to Testimony of Walter S. Steele regarding Communist activities in the United States. Hearings before the Committee on Un-American Activities, House of Representatives, Eightieth Congress, first session, on H. R. 1884 and H. R. 2122, pages 75,76. It is the first hard evidence tying Vernon Jarrett directly to the Communist Party.  Source: Trevor Loudon’s New Zeal Blog

1984, Coalition of Essential Schools (CES) is founded by Ted Sizer.

The Coalition of Essential Schools (CES), a progressive education reform model rooted in the social justice pedagogy of John Dewey and Paulo Freire, was expanded by President Obama and communist Bill Ayers through their work with the Chicago Annenberg Challenge in the 1990′s, and later, through the Chicago Public Education Fund. Source: Danette Clark

1985, Michelle Robinson (Obama) graduated Princeton University

1987, Valerie Jarrett and her husband William Robert Jarrett separate.

1987, Valerie Jarrett went to work in Chicago Mayor Harold Washington‘s office, until his death in November 1987.

In 1948, [Vernon] Jarrett [Valerie’s father-in-law] started a radio show, “Negro Newsfront,” and went on to become the Chicago Tribune’s first black syndicated columnist.

A Washington Post obituary of Vernon Jarrett notes he “stoked the political embers in Chicago that led to the 1983 election of the city’s first African-American mayor, Harold Washington.”

1988, Valerie Jarrett and her husband divorced,

1988, Barack Obama’s first job in Chicago was with as a community organizer as director and lead organizer of the Developing Communities Project (DCP). Serving on the board of the DCP was John Ayers, Bill Ayers’ brother.

1988, Thomas Ayers (Bill Ayers father) founded the Alliance for Better Chicago Schools Coalition (ABC). Barack Obama was a member of the coalition, at the same time he was organizer of the Developing Communities Project (DCP) — community organizing —

1988, Michelle Robinson (Obama) graduated Harvard Law School

1988-1991, Michelle Robinson joined Sidley and Austin law firm as an associate. At some point she assigned to mentor “summer associate, Barack Obama.

1991, Valerie Jarrett, Chief of Staff for Chicago Mayor Richard Daley, hired Michelle Robinson (Obama), now engaged to Barack Obama, to work in some capacity in the mayor’s office. Daley sat in the mayor’s office for six corrupt years.

1991, President George H. W. Bush proposed a “set of national history standards, supported and funded by the federal government. The cry and howl was huge. It didn’t happen.

1991, Bill Ayers‘ and Mike Klonksky’s Small Schools Workshop is founded in Chicago. Klonsky, a blogger for Barack Obama‘s 2008 presidential campaign was a former (or maybe now closeted) Communist Party (Marxist-Leninist) chairman who was reportedly “repeatedly feted with state-dinner-level visits to Beijing.” Klonsky is still with Small Schools Workshop.

1992 (October), Barack Obama and Michelle Robinson marry.

1993, Obama begins his law career with Davis, Miner, Barnhill and Gallard as a “civil rights” attorney, spending 70% of his time on “civil rights” and the remainder on real estate. He did not leave the firm until 2004 according to the LA Times article, but his billable hours with the firm of 3,723 (465 eight-hour days) were mostly during the first four years, which would be 1993-1997 (he was elected to the Illinois State Senate in 1997.)

1993 (December), The Annenberg Challenge (for school reform) launched. At some point, The Annenberg Challenge had 18 “challenge sites,” one of which was the Chicago Annenberg Challenge.

The Annenberg Foundation lists Barack Obama as a “founding member” of the Chicago Annenberg Challenge Board (CAC). He is the only member listed without the benefit of a job title.

Founding members of the Chicago Annenberg Challenge Board were:  Susan Crown, vice president, Henry Crown Company; Patricia Graham, president, The Spencer Foundation, and former dean, Harvard Graduate School of Education; Stanley Ikenberry, president-emeritus, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign; Handy Lindsey, executive director, Field Foundation; Barack Obama [NO CREDENTIALS!]; Arnold Weber, former president, Northwestern University, and president, Civic Committee of the Commercial Club of Chicago; and Wanda White, executive director, Community Workshop on Economic Development.

1993, Walter Annenberg announced the Annenberg Challenge at the White House with President Bill Clinton present and Vartan Gregorian, among others. Gregorian was a close friend of Annenberg’s with a 20-year relationship. Gregorian was to be involved with the Annenberg Challenge, to ensure a “bi-partisan” nature. Gregorian is believed to be Obama’s connection to Weather Undergrounder and Pentagon bomber, Bill Ayers.

In 1993, Brown University President Vartan Gregorian (whom President Obama appointed as a White House Fellow in 2009) collaborated with Ted Sizer on the launching of the Annenberg Institute for School Reform. The institute was created to build on the work of Sizer’s Coalition of Essential Schools and to expand that work to schools nationwide…

In Chicago, Obama and Ayers funneled money to the now disgraced and de-funded ACORN to identify and train community members to become teachers in CES schools. In other states, CES recruited ACORN workers to elbow their way onto local school councils and scream for reform.

With heavy funding from Bill GatesCarnegie CorporationGeorge Soros’ Open Society Institute, and CSR, Title 1, and smaller learning community grants from the U.S. Department of Education, CES has grown into a nationwide network of thousands of schools. Each school is provided with curriculum material, professional development training, and staff support through CES regional training centers, affiliates, and partner universities. CES currently uses the Annenberg Institute “as a forum for sharing resources and amassing political weight”. Source: Danette Clark (read Ms. Clark’s entire article the web of connections is breathtaking)

1993, Barack Obama becomes an “associate of the Woods Fund.

Rudd asked him to join the board, which met four times a year to review grant proposals. (Obama also served on the board of the larger Joyce Foundation, which specialized in environmental conservation, welfare reform and education.) “Community organizing was a central priority of this foundation, so more and more we drew him in,” says [Jean] Rudd, who retired in 2000…

Also, the Joyce Foundation is an anti-gun foundation hidden under the guise of being an environmental Fund. How come Obama never mentions this Fund he was on? Maybe because the NRA calls the Joyce Foundation an activist foundation whose “shadowy web of huge donations” leads “straight to puppet strings that control the agenda of gun ban groups.” Source: No Quarter

1994-2002, Barack Obama appointed Director of The Woods Fund. Obama was on the Woods Fund board for at least 6 years before Ayers joined it! See the link to No Quarter above.

1995, The Qatar Foundation International is founded (more below about actual impact on U.S. education).

Its mission is dedicated to connecting cultures and advancing global citizenship through education.  QFI is a not-for-profit organization in Washington, D.C., focused on grant-giving and programmatic activities that promote education as a force that facilitates collaboration across geographical, social and cultural boundaries.  Source: QFI website

1995-2000, In addition to the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, Obama and William Ayers co-chaired “A clearing-house for ideas, for resources…” known as the Collaborative for five years (1995-2000).

1995 (January) William “Bill” Ayers, former Weather Undergrounder (and founder), involved in bombing the Pentagon, and a former member of the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted List, wrote the grant proposal for participating in the Annenberg Challenge, along with two others. Chicago won the Annenberg grant of $49.2 million, with those funds matched by philanthropists and businesses. Obama had $100 million to spend on Chicago public education, with no focus from the Annenberg Foundation on test results or grade advancement.

Stories vary as to how Barack Obama became the Chairman of the CAC with no executive experience. He was a community organizer at various points in his college years and soon after, a “civil rights” attorney for a short stint at Davis, Miner, Barnhill & Gallard. Some believe Bill Ayers was instrumental in choosing Obama, other reports credit Deborah Leff, then president of the Joyce Foundation where Obama was a member of the Joyce board.

In fact, an exchange of letters in late 1994, copies of which I obtained from Brown University, between Vartan Gregorian,…demonstrates that Ayers played a direct role in “composing” the Challenge’s board of directors.

Another exchange of letters between Gregorian and Adele Simmons, then President of the Chicago-based MacArthur Foundation and an advisor to Ayers, confirms the active personal role of Ayers in selecting board members. Source: Canada Free Press

1995 (early), Barack Obama becomes Chairman of CAC.

1995 (December), Bill Ayers’ Small Schools Workshop receives $1,056,162, the first of the funds received in December 1995. With Obama still the director of the Woods Fund, and tight ties to the Joyce Foundation, Ayers receives an additional $912,556 to bring Ayers’ Small Schools Workshop haul to $1,968,718.00.

1995, Valerie Jarrett joins the Habitat Company as CEO and become one of the most infamous slumlords in American history, receiving $1 million to prepare one of the properties she managed, Grove Parc, an inhumane-living-conditions-property, for the “Olympics Village,” that she envisioned. Chicago was rejected as an Olympic site after Obama took office. Tony Rezko is connected to Grove Parc, as he was to how Barack and Michelle Obama purchased their Chicago home. Jarrett’s management (CEO) skills for Grove Parc received a grade of 11 out of 100 from federal inspectors, with 100 being desired.

Barack Obama, as an Illinois State Senator, Grove Parc was in his district.

The facility is located in the district that Barack Obama represented as an Illinois State Senator. The Boston Globe says the apartments are “for people who can’t afford to live anywhere else.” has a nine-page stranger-than-fiction accounting of Valerie Jarrett and Barack Obama’s roles in Chicago’s failed government subsidized housing. Hundreds of apartments built…hundreds of apartments fallen into disrepair…some rendered unlivable by the Government – some seized by the Government. More here.

1996, The Chicago Annenberg Challenge gives the South Shore African Village Collaborative a $200,000 grant:

The South Shore African Village Collaborative (SSAVC) was very much a part of the Afrocentric “rites of passage movement,” a fringe education crusade of the 1990s. SSAVC schools featured “African-Centered” curricula built around “rites of passage” ceremonies inspired by the puberty rites found in many African societies. In and of themselves, these ceremonies were harmless. Yet the philosophy that accompanied them was not. On the contrary, it was a carbon-copy of Jeremiah Wright’s worldview. Source: Ethics & Public Policy Center

1997, Obama is elected to the Illinois State Senate.

1997 (approximately), The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation supports a five-year initiative for ten new Coalition of Essential Schools.

1998, probably 1995 – 1998, Barack Obama‘s CAC office was at the same location as Bill Ayers’ Small Schools Workshop, 115 S. Sangamon Street, Chicago, Illinois 60607, as evidenced by tax returns. The address is the same, whether they shared offices or were located in same building is not clear. What is clear is that Ayers was much more than “a guy who lives in my neighborhood,” as Barack Obama claimed, calling Ayers “a cranky old domestic terrorist…,” he did not denounce Ayer’s political ideology.

1998, The Chicago Public Education Fund is created by the CAC Board of Directors with Obama as board chairman, and by this time, Communist Bill Ayers is co-chairman. Obama’s current Secretary of Commerce, Penny Pritzker was one of the founding members of the Chicago Public Education Fund. The purpose of the fund was to carry-out the work of the CAC.

1999, The Chicago Annenberg Challenge closed in utter failure – Barack Obama‘s only executive experience.

Crucial records of Obama’s and Ayers’ time at CAC have been sealed.

2000, David Coleman and Jason Zimba found the Grow Network in New York to “transform assessment [testing] into an opportunity for meaningful instruction.]

2001 (approximately)Barack Obama is Director of Illinois Project Vote.

Writing in the Chicago Sun-Times in 1992, [Vernon] Jarrett said: “Good news! Good news! Project Vote, a collectivity of 10 church-based community organizations dedicated to black voter registration, is off and running. … If Project Vote is to reach its goal of registering 150,000 out of an estimated 400,000 unregistered blacks statewide, ‘it must average 10,000 rather than 7,000 every week,’ says Barack Obama, the program’s executive director.” Source: WND

2001, Obama’s current Secretary of Education, Arne Duncan was CEO of Chicago Public Schools.

2001, Barack Obama served on the Chicago Public Education Fund board’s Leadership Council for approximately three years, along with Thomas and John Ayers, the father and brother (respectively) of Weather Undergrounder Bill Ayers.

2001, Valerie Jarrett joins the University of Chicago’s Board of Trustees.

2001, Valerie Jarrett’s mother, Barbara Bowman leave the Erickson Institute.

2002, Valerie Jarrett is appointed Vice-Chair of the University of Chicago’s Medical Center Board.

2002, Chicago Public Schools joins with David Coleman and Jason Zimba‘s Grow Network to provide data-driven student performance reports for 2002-2003. The contract to Grow Network was $2.2 million.

A quote from Coleman:

Student Achievement Partners, all you need to know about us are a couple of things. One is we’re composed of that collection of unqualified people who were involved in developing the common standards. And our only qualification was our attention and command of the evidence behind them.

I probably spend a little more time on literacy because as weak as my qualifications are there, in math they’re even more desperate in their lacking. ~ David Coleman 2011

Coleman has never been a classroom teacher.

2002, Michelle Obama is hired at the University of Chicago as Executive Director for Community affairs with a salary of $121,910.

2004, Valerie Jarrett is picked to run the finances for Barack Obama’s successful U.S. Senate bid.

2004, David Coleman and Jason Zimba sell Grow Network to McGraw Hill Publishers.

2005, Michelle Obama is promoted to University of Chicago Vice President for Community and External Affairs at a salary of $316,962.

2005 (January), Barack Obama elected to U.S. Senate from Illinois.

2005, President G. W. Bush’s Secretary of Education, Margaret Spellings proposed “a student unit record system,” now a reality known as “data-sets,” chronicling the history our children as, in Common Core terminology, “human capital.” Spelling’s proposal, put into legislation, failed but Common Core brings it to life.

2006, Michelle Obama reduced her hours at University of Chicago Hospital to half-time at a salary of $272,618 (hardly a pay-cut of one-half)

2007, Michelle Obama reduced her work at University of Chicago Hospital to part-time (intimated to be 20 hours a week) with a salary of $103,633.

2006-2007, Arizona Governor Janet Napolitano (later Secretary of Homeland Security) chaired the National Governors Association. In that job, her “initiative” included “a strong focus on improving math and science education, as well as the workforce.”

2007, David Coleman and Jason Zimba found Student Achievement PartnersThey received $6.5 million from the Gates Foundation (yes, Bill Gates) to write Common Core Standards. Coleman’s focus is on literacy, Zimba‘s on math.

Retired Stanford Professor James Milgram served as the only content expert on the math validation committee:

For example, by the end of fifth grade the material being covered in arithmetic and algebra in Core Standards is more than a year behind the early grade expectations in most high achieving countries. By the end of seventh grade Core Standards are roughly two years behind. Read more.

If you follow the link above you will see Milgram describes the Common Core math as a “political document” of “low expectations.”

Here’s a math quote from Jason Zimba that should raise the hair on your arms:

A key Common Core creator, Jason Zimbasaid that the Common Core can prepare students for non-selective colleges but that it does not prepare students for STEM careers.  He said:  “I think it’s a fair critique that it’s a minimal definition of college readiness…  but not for the colleges most parents aspire to… Not only not for STEM, it’s also not for selective colleges. For example, for U.C. Berkeley,  whether you are going to be an engineer or not, you’d better have precalculus to get into U.C. Berkeley.” Source: What Is Common Core

Coleman‘s standards, a brief peek:

Coleman insists that teachers must train students to be workers in the Global Economy. In his words, “It is rare in a working environment that someone says, “Johnson, I need a market analysis by Friday but before that I need a compelling account of your childhood.” Translation to the classroom: No more primary grade essays about lost teeth or middle school essays about prepubescent angst. Instead, students must provide critical analysis of the “Allegory of the Cave” from Plato’s Republic, listed as an “exemplary informational text” in the Common Core State Standards for Language Arts. If that’s judged as over the top for 12-year-olds, there’s always Ronald Reagan’s 1988 “Address to Students at Moscow State University.”

As though literacy is to prepare children only for a working environment. And as though personal opinion isn’t vital in a working environment.

Coleman is on a mission to slash both the amount of personal narrative in writing and the amount of fiction in reading. This is based not on any experience teaching –except at the University of London–but because, he insists, readers gain “world knowledge” through nonfiction, which he calls “informational text.”

Standardisto David Coleman doesn’t give a shit about what children have long enjoyed about reading fiction and poetry, since he wants to make schools a boot camp for the global economy via the “Common Core Standards” he is helping the U.S. Department of Education push like crack cocaine across the USA. Ironically, schools like Sidwell Friends in Washington, D.C. (where the children of Barack Obama go to school) and the University of Chicago Lab School (where the children of former White House Chief of Staff and now Chicago’s Mayor Rahm Emanuel go to school) reject straight jackets like the “Common Core” and promote the reading of children, young adult, and real literature .Skeptics who might doubt that replacing Brown Bear, Brown Bear with a Wikipedia entry on Ursus arctos will stave off our nation’s economic woes might wonder: Why, if fiction is no more vital than leftover turnips, is there a Nobel Prize in Literature and not in lawyers’ briefs or material from the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco’s Web site (listed as a Common Core exemplary text)? Source: Schools Matter

Take a moment to think about what “non-fiction” your child will read once Common Core cannot be quashed. You’re unlikely to find no history as you know it to be true, you may find everything written by Barack Obama before and after his presidency, the United Nations plan for globalization and open borders, the selected works of Mao Tse-Tung. We don’t know, do we? We can’t trust, can we, because your local board of education and your Parent-Teacher organization, is non-existent under Common Core.

As you will read in the above linked article, Common Core exists solely because Bill and Melinda Gates have funded it with billions of dollars.

Undated, A Framework for a Multi-State Human Capital Development Data System:

The rise of a globalized knowledge economy requires us to understand the distribution of skills and abilities in our population….

This ‘human capital development data system” must be developed to answer “master” policy questions that benefit each of the principal state stakeholders — the K-12 education system, the postsecondary system, and labor/workforce development system…

Perhaps the biggest challenge is matching K-12 students who are not found in one of the states’ postsecondary databases with available employment records if the K-12 system does not collect student Social Security numbers or is prohibited from doing so.

The above linked article states that the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and others are funding the drive for tracking your children throughout their school years and into the workforce. The focus to those behind Common Core, including the National Chamber of Commerce, is your child as “Human Capital.” Your child will be tracked at they move from state-to-state.

Indeed PJM has seen the data sets — and they might be accurately described as a brave new world. While not all of the information in these sets is mandatory at this time, the level of detail being asked for is unsettling.

The sets include such things as hair color, eye color, gestational age at birth (whether a child was premature or not), blood type, blood test results, birth marks, and even bus stop arrival time. This article is by PJ Media. The link above to “data sets” has been scrubbed from the Internet.

Assuming that parents will not be eager to give up their child’s social security number, other information, especially eye color, birth marks and “bus stop arrival time” will not be as difficult. If you think this laundry list of Marxists wouldn’t dare to take your child’s blood type, give it some thought. It hasn’t happened yet, but…

2008, Michelle Obama took an “unpaid leave of absence to work on Barack’s presidential campaign,” but received $62,709 in salary. Hardly, “unpaid.”

2008, Valerie Jarrett leaves her position as CEO of the Habitat Company to take a position with the Obama administration.

2008 (January) Bill Ayers blogged:

The dominant narrative in contemporary school reform is once again focused on exclusion and disadvantage, race and class, black and white. “Across the US,” the National Governor’s Association declared in 2005, “a gap in academic achievement persists between minority and disadvantaged students and their white counterparts.”…

Gloria Ladson-Billings upends all of this with an elegant reversal: there is no achievement gap, she argues, but actually a glancing reflection of something deeper and more profound—America has a profound education debt. The educational inequities that began with the annihilation of native peoples and the enslavement of Africans, the conquest of the continent and the importation of both free labor and serfs, transformed into apartheid education, something anemic, inferior, inadequate, and oppressive.Over decades and centuries the debt has accumulated and is passed from generation to generation, and it continues to grow and pile up.

2008, Linda Darling-Hammond was education advisor to Barack Obama‘s 2008 campaign. Her issue is the “education debt” we owe to all minorities, and the plan to repay that debt is Common Core. She has served on the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) since 2006

Darling-Hammond is a long time advisory board member to the National Equity Project, formerly known as the Bay Area Coalition of Essential Schools and the Bay Area Coalition for Equitable Schools (or BayCES). The National Equity Project/BayCES opened in 1991 as a regional office for Theodore Sizer’s Coalition of Essential Schools (CES).

CES is an outgrowth of the Annenberg Institute for School Reform at Brown University and is the progressive reform movement behind Common Core.

Through an organization she co-founded called the School Redesign Network, and through the National Equity Project/BayCES, Darling-Hammond has worked closely over the years with socialist, Deborah Meier, communist, Bill Ayers, and several ultra-liberal organizations, including the crooked and recently de-funded ACORN, to open new progressive schools and transform existing public schools into progressive indoctrination centers. This reform effort was once widely known as the ‘small schools initiative’ or ‘small schools movement’. Source

Read about Radical Math, and Creating Balance in an Unjust World here.

2008 (April), Linda Darling-Hammond, Gloria Ladson-Billings, Ted Sizer and other “convented” to prepare this report titled Democracy at Risk, The Need for a New Federal Policy in Education. Priority #1 is “Pay Off the Educational Debt,” page 20.

It’s time for our government to be a s concerned with the civil rights of its own people as it is with those of other nations. Securing the right to an equitable education is as fundamental as security the right to the vote. To secure this right, we need to prioritize paying off the “educational debt” we owe our most underserved children…

…currently, the allocation of educations spending does not reflect the urgency of repaying the educational debt….

2008, Janet Napolitano created a task force that “would eventually serve as the building blocks of what became known as the Common Core State Standards,” (CCSS). Now you know how Janet Napolitano got to Homeland Security.

2008, along with other organizations, and several Teacher’s Unions, joined the NGA and the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSO)

Syndicated columnist Michelle Malkin has a lot to say about Achieve, Inc. President Michael Cohen, a “veteran Clinton-era educrat, directed “education policy for the NGA, and is the “project management partner” of PARCC.

Who’s behind Achieve? Reminder: The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has dumped $37 million into the group since 1999 to promote Common Core.

Just to be clear:

Don’t read their lips. Just follow the money. This bipartisan power grab is Washington-led and Washington-fed. It’s not a conspiracy. It’s elementary: All Common Core roads lead to K Street. ~ Michelle Malkin, March 2014

An Achieve spokesman accused Malkin of erroneously asserting that Achieve, Inc. employs “lobbyists,” and he said “we never have.”

Malkin replied:

No? Never? Someone didn’t do his homework. Mr. Colby, meet Patricia Sullivan. She’s the founding executive director of Achieve and a career lobbyist who has bounced around D.C. for the past quarter-century in influence-peddling positions for the Gates Foundation-funded National Governors Association, Council for Chief State School Officers and Center on Education Policy. She has “advocated” for trade groups, a teachers union and her own “consulting firm.” That’s Washington-speak for “lobbying.”

And let me introduce Mr. Colby to Ronn Robinson, a founding senior vice president of Achieve and veteran Democratic and corporate education lobbyist for former Washington Gov. Booth Gardner and Boeing. According to The Hill newspaper’s column titled, ahem, “Lobbying World,” Not-a-Lobbyist Robinson left Achieve several years ago to lobby for the D.C.-based National Center on Education and the Economy (NCEE).

NCEE is the multimillion-dollar Gates Foundation-funded advocacy(read: “lobbying”) group founded by Marc Tucker, the godfather of Common Core-style schemes and top-down control masquerading as “reform.” He has dominated the D.C. education-lobbying scene since before Bill Clinton was in office. Like Achieve, Tucker’s NCEE is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that crusades for ever-increasing federal involvement in every aspect of education while denying its brazen lobbying activities.

In the early 1990s, NCEE (established with $5 million in New York taxpayer-funded seed grants) paid Hillary Clinton more than $100,000 to direct the group’s “Workforce Skills Program” while she worked at the Rose Law Firm in Arkansas. After the Clintons moved into the White House, Tucker sent a now-infamous letter to Mrs. Clinton outlining a radical progressive plan “to remold the entire American system” through a centralized national-standards Trojan Horse. Read Michelle’s entire column here.

2009 (March), How did our Governors and departments of education buy-in to Common Core? What triggered the adoption?

In March 2009, the Department of Education revealed its backdoor method of gaining federal control of state educational policy when Secretary of Education Arne Duncan announced the Race to the Top (RTTT) program—an opportunity for states to compete for a share of $4.35 billion reserved for state education incentives by the American Recovery and Restoration Act. To even be eligible for funding, states had to promise that they would fully adopt a set of common college- and career-ready standards supplemented with only 15% of their own standards. Applicants also had to demonstrate that they would expand their state’s longitudinal data system to be in the same format as other states and to contain new data including student health, demographics, and success in postsecondary education.

Another view from Oklahoma’s Stop Common Core warrior Jenni White, March 30, 2014:

Brad Henry [former Democrat Oklahoma Governor] took State Fiscal Stabilization Funds (SFSF) from the Obama administration and when he did, he began the process of handing over Oklahoma’s public education to the federal government.  He didn’t stop there, though, he continued the process by applying for a Race to the Top (RTT) grant.  For every education ‘reform’ Oklahoma put into LAW, Oklahoma got more ‘points’ on their RTT grant. Consequently:
  • the Common Core State Standards were instituted into law before they were ever even available to read in final form,
  • the underpinnings of the P20/W Council (Prek-20 years and Workforce) were cemented in place to collect massive amounts of data on public school children without consent of their parents thanks to the changes in FERPA laws under Arne Duncan and the Obama administration
  • A-F grading system and teacher ‘accountability’ systems were begun

Once Governor Mary Fallin and Superintendent Barresi took office, it only got worse.  As I have said numerous times, these women have spoken out of both sides of their mouths with forked tongues for as long as they have been in office…

So states were bought. My state of Oklahoma actually passed Common Core as legislation. Some states didn’t bother. Departments of Education took up the program with no authorization. Note that accepting the “longitudinal data system” means that you will provide whatever personal information deemed necessary to collected on your child, also known as data-sets, and data-mining results.

2009, The National Governor’s Association (NGA) brought Coleman and Zimba onboard, along with Susan Pimentel and Common Core is now a national problem. After trickling down with all the influences from its beginning, at least the 1960s, Common Core as we know it today was officially announced On June 1, 2009.

2009 (June), Obama appoints Vartan Gregorian to the President’s Commission on White House Fellowships.

2009 (November), Bill Ayers‘ brother John Ayers, a “Chicago education advocate and reformer,” is named the vice-president an treasurer of the Carnegie Foundation.

2010 (July), Amplify Education launched. Purchased by Rupert Murdock‘s News Corp. Previous name Wireless Generation.

2010 (September), PARCC (the Partnership for Readiness in College and Careers) is funded by Race to the Top assessment funds of $160 $186 million from Obama’s stimulus package, through the U.S. Department of Education. Implementation of PARCC K-12 testing is scheduled for the 2014-2015 school year.

PARCC is one of “two state consortia developing national assessments.” PARCC requires a specific number of tests that K-12 will be subjected to annually. will cost $29.50 per student (recently revised upward from approx. $27.50 per statement.) In other words, PARCC produces the tests and states pay for them.

PARCC membership as of 4-7-14 (showing withdrawals): Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Delaware, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Mississippi, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Dakota, Ohio, OklahomaPennsylvania, Rhode Island, Tennessee. (currently 14 states and D.C.)

The number of states in PARCC is getting far too close to the 15-state threshold outlined in its $160 million federal grant…

Moreover, if the Smart Balanced Consortium is the only one left standing after PARCC implodes, this becomes an almost too delicious thought to entertain: Soon, the Fordham Institute, Achieve, Inc., and other proponents of Common Core will need to coalesce behind Linda Darling-Hammond’s testing consortia if they want to see Common Core fully implemented.  Good luck selling that brand of smokes. Source: Jim Stergios, Pioneer Institute, on Twitter @jimstergios

A maximum of 20 school days are set aside for PARCC testing and a maximum of 20 days for end-of-year (EOY) testing, in a total of nine sessions.

At each grade level the PBA component will require five sessions — three sessions for ELA/Literacy and two sessions for mathematics. The End-of-Year (EOY) testing will require four sessions -0 two sessions for ELA/Literacy and two sessions for mathematics. Source: PARCC

The total cost of all PARCC tests per student annually is $29.50. The cost increases by $3-$4 per student for written tests.

2011 (date unconfirmed), The Smarter Balanced Consortium was founded with $160 million in funding from Obama’s stimulus package, through the U.S. Department of Education. Assessments (tests) are scheduled for implementation for the 2014-2015 school year.

Member states of Smarter Balanced Consortium, according to its website are: California, Connecticut, Delaware, Iowa, Idaho, Maine, Michigan Missouri, Montana, New Hampshire, Nevada, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Wisconsin, West Virginia, South Carolina, Vermont, Washington, Wyoming.

Here is how the Smarter Balanced Consortium describes the difference between PARCC and Smarter Balanced:

Both Smarter Balanced and PARCC are developing assessment systems aligned to the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) in English language arts/literacy and mathematics with the goal of preparing K-12 students for college and career. However, there are key differences between the two consortia. For example, Smarter Balanced assessments will use computer adaptive technology, while PARCC will use computerized assessments that are not adaptive. For a summary of both design approaches, see Coming Together to Raise Achievement: New Assessments for the Common Core State Standards, a white paper developed by Educational Testing Service. Linda Darling-Hammond is a Senior Research Advisor for Smarter BalancedLinda Darling-Hammond was education advisor to Barack Obama’s 2008 campaign. Her issue is the “education debt” owed to all minorities, and the plan to repay that debt is Common Core.

During his historic campaign for the presidency, Barack Obama described our large race- and class-based achievement gaps as “morally unacceptable and economically untenable.” ~ Linda Darling-Hammond

Darling-Hammond praises the Occupy movement:

The Occupy movement is beginning to reawaken awareness of how much social inequities have grown in the past thirty years,…~ Linda Darling-Hammond, Washington Post, January 2012

2011, Connect All Schools is associated with One World Education (OWE). Our Department of Defense (DOD) and the U.S. State Department has partnered with Connect All Schools and the Qatar Foundation International (QFI). Vartan Gregorian serves on the QFI board.

QFI, funded by the Qatari governmentexplains on its website the initiative was founded in response to Obama’s call in his June 2009 speech to the Arab world in Cairo, Egypt, to “create a new online network, so a young person in Kansas can communicate instantly with a young person in Cairo.”

QFI relates how more than 100 U.S. schools and organizations have already connected on the interactive website.

The stated goal of the initiative is to “connect every school in the U.S. with the world by 2016.”

QFI, based in Washington, D.C., is the U.S. branch of the Qatar Foundation, founded in 1995 by Qatar’s ruling emir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.

Thani is still the group’s vice-chairman, while one of his three wives, Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, chairs the organization’s board.

Thani also launched Al Jazeera in 1996 and served as the television network’s chairman.

The Qatar Foundation is close to the Muslim Brotherhood.

In January 2012, it launched the Research Center for Islamic Legislation and Ethics under the guidance of Tariq Ramadan, who serves as the center’s director. Source: Aaron Klein

Tariq Ramadan was denied entry into the U.S. under the Bush administration. He is the grandson of Hasan al-Banna, the founder of the Muslim Brotherhood. The Bush administration didn’t like his connections to Islamic terrorism, but since there is no such thing as Islamic terrorism, the Obama administration and Hillary Clinton welcomed him back to America. Read about him here.

Vartan Gregorian is a naturalized U.S. citizen, born in Tabriz, Iran to Armenian parents.

Last week, the governing board of the Tucson Unified School District asked the school board to accept a $465,000 curriculum grant from the Qatar Foundation International, a global philanthropic organization with strong ties to the Muslim Brotherhood, the parent organization of the terrorist group Hamas.

The grant money is intended to implement “innovative curricula and teaching materials to be used in any Arabic language classroom,” reports the Arizona Daily Independent.

Two Tucson schools, Safford K-8 Magnet School and Cholla High Magnet School, will be the recipients of the terror-infested cash, according to Tucson News Now.

About 100 students at Cholla High Magnet School are learning Arabic. At Safford K-8 Magnet School, 125 students are learning the language.

Last year’s grant for Arabic language from the Qatar Foundation was $55,000. Source: Daily Caller, July 2013

2012 (May), David Coleman is appointed president of the College Board, which develops SATs and PSATs

2012, Amplify Learning created to develop a curriculum based on Common Core Standards. Focus on hardware for both teachers and students.

2012 (March), Amplify Insight division of Amplify Education created to develop K-12 products for Math and Common Core English Language Arts (ELA). News Corp partnered with AT&T for digital education.

Amplify is dedicated to reimagining K-12 education by creating digital products and services that empower students, teachers and parents in new ways…“Together, we plan to bring to market a 4G mobile tablet-based experience that we believe will significantly enhance teaching and learning for grades K-12,” said Ralph de la Vega, President and CEO, AT&T Mobility.

2013 (October), Amplify tablets were recalled from schools for technical glitches in North Carolina. Students had “most of their lessons on a tablet.” No tablets, no lessons. Teachers must be innovative.

2013, The New York Times scrubs Valerie Jarrett‘s radical ties to Bill Ayers and Frank Marshall Davis.

2013, Linda Darling-Hammond is busy developing assessments for “our new nation curriculum,” (no, it isn’t a state curriculum), “the Common Core State Standards.

The most liberal school systems in our country today known for political and social indoctrination are districts that dove head first into CES/small school reform years ago and remain there today. Namely, Chicago Public Schools, New York City Public Schools, Oakland Unified School District, and Seattle Public Schools (among others).

2014 (January)Obama recommends Ayers-founded Small Schools Workshop, now run by Mike Klonsky, for his support of “learning environments that are supportive of perseverance.”

Today, Obama and Duncan specifically promote, by name, Sizer’s CES schools and Ayers’ Small Schools Workshop while billions in corporate dollars and federal tax dollars are being spent to carry the ‘terms’ of their movement into  the creation of Common Core.

Considering the numerous Common Core developers, writers, assessment creators, validation committee members, and funders deeply tied to CES reform, it seems clear that Common Core is the culmination of a 30-year-old progressive reform initiative still driven by the ‘irrelevant’ Bill AyersSource: Danette Clark

2013 (March), Amplify Access division of Amplify Education released the Amplify Tablet with educated-oriented software, and apps.

2014 (January), Pre-loaded tablets, pre-loaded apps, some mandated by Common Core.

The Common Core gold rush is on. Apple, Pearson, Google, Microsoft and Amplify are all cashing in on the federal standards/testing/textbook racket. But the EduTech boondoggle is no boon for students. It’s more squandered tax dollars down the public school drain.

Even more worrisome: The stampede is widening a dangerous path toward invasive data mining.

According to the Silicon Valley Business Journal, the ed tech sector “is expected to more than double in size to $13.4 billion by 2017.” That explosive growth is fueled by Common Core’s top-down digital learning and testing mandates. So: Cui bono?

In North Carolina, the Guilford County public school district withdrew 15,000 Amplify tablets last fall. Pre-loaded with Common Core apps and part of a federal $30 million Race to the Top grant program, the devices peddled by News Corp. and Wireless Generation were rendered useless because of defective cases, broken screens and malfunctioning power supplies.

Last year, the Los Angeles Unified School District dumped $1 billion of scarce resources into a disastrous iPad program. Educrats paid $678 per glorified Apple e-textbook, pre-loaded with Common Core-branded apps created by Pearson.

As I’ve reported previously, Pearson is the multibillion-dollar educational publishing and testing conglomerate at the center of the federally driven, taxpayer-funded “standards” scheme. Pearson’s digital learning products are used by an estimated 25 million-plus people in North America. Common Core has been a convenient new catalyst for getting the next generation of consumers hooked.- please read the entirety of this important article at Michelle Malkin

The core of Common Core is big bucks for a well-connected few, as well as racial justice. Something for everyone but the average American.

2014 (January), Pearson Education introduces Common Core app for iPad.

2014 (March), The Globalists

…just this week, an invitation-only conference hosted by former Florida Governor and pro-Common Core ringleader Jeb Bush entitled “Globalization of Higher Education” took place in Texas. Among the attendees: Hillary Clinton, U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan, former World Bank President Robert Zoellick, UNESCO officials, university presidents, and more. While higher education appears to be the next target of reformers, the globalization of K-12 schooling is on the verge of completion — at least if the American people do not rise up and stop it.

For decades now, the globalists at UNESCO and other UN outfits have been openly plotting to impose what they sometimes refer to as the World Core Curriculum on all of humanity. According to the agency, it is all linked to UN Agenda 21. In addition to gathering up unprecedented amounts of data on everyone, the global “education reform” movement is essentially seeking to instill radical new values in children — turning them into “global citizens” with views inherently at odds with Biblical Christianity — to facilitate the total regimentation of human society. Countless programs and initiatives such as “Education for All” are working toward that goal.

2014 (March), Bill Gates urges teachers to rally around the support of Common Core. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has $2.3 billion invested in Common Core. Among only 161 grants, of a total of 1,800, the average grant was $204.4 million dollars for each of the 161.

2014 (March), UPDATE: A Missouri Kindergarten teacher testified that she was bullied and intimidated by her school district to say nothing negative about Common Core. Read her story here.

Perhaps today, as we try to fight off Common Core, the most important issue to address is the data-mining, data-sets, tracking your child, whatever you want to call this bold invasion of your family’s privacy.

The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation gave $100 million to fund a mega database to collect private information on every American school child from early education through high school. He is also funding studies to prove the need for tracking students through college and into their adult life…

InBloom, which has already been caught selling student information, would store student’s scores, attendance, needs, disabilities, disciplinary record. If you were suspended in third grade, it would follow you for life. InBloom is working with nine states:  Colorado, Delaware, Georgia, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, New York and North Carolina.

InBloom goes hand-in-hand with Common Core and standardized testing and they all mesh together to form a nationalized education program run by the federal government. It is unconstitutional but this approach does an end-run around the constitution. Many on both the left and right of the political spectrum are opposed.

The above quote is current (end of March 2014). Think “hackers.” Do you believe Bill Gates can protect your child’s information? Of course not, we can protect nothing online.

2014 (April), Dr. Joe Willhoft, Executive Director of Smarter Balanced Consortium spoke in Connecticut. An attendee, Jason Courtmanch, blogged/said:
