The LA Times has officially identified one of the shooters of the San Bernardino massacre where fourteen died and seventeen were wounded, as Syed R. Farook. KTLA reports a Syed R. Farook was employed by San Bernardino County as an Environmental Health Specialists. A woman was with Farook was also taken out by police. Fox is reporting that she also has a foreign-sounding name, but did not have the authority to release yet release it. Syed Farook was an American citizen. It is unknown whether he was born here or naturalized. There is a Facebook page set up under the name of Syed Farook Murderer (this page has been removed), with a photo, who may have also gone by the name “Raheel.” The Daily Beast is identifying the photo below as the shooter. The photo is the same shown on the Facebook “Syed Farook Murderer” page. Ongoing updates as available.
UPDATE 1:17 PM CT Dec. 3, 2015: One of Farook’s luckier co-workers, Patrick Baccari, said he sat at the same table with Farook at the party. At some point Farook disappeared, leaving his cost on his chair. Baccari went to the restroom and as he stepped inside, he was hit with shrapnel coming through the wall. Source: AP
UPDATE 1:06 PM CT Dec. 3, 2015: In the latest press conference, about noon today, Police Chief Jarrod Burguan said the couple were NOT WEARING GO-PRO CAMERAS or cameras of any kind. Fox has just reported that Farook and Malik married in July 2014. At some point, Farook went to Pakistan. When Malik came to the US from Pakistan she was on a visa that allowed 90 days for them to marry. HOWEVER, the AP is reporting that Farook went to Pakistan in 2015 “and returned with a wife.”
UPDATE 11:11 AM CT Dec. 3, 2015: Trace Gallagher on Fox just saying Farook and Malik may have been married two or three years (she from Pakistan), and that the trip to Saudia Arabia may not have been to bring back a “bride.” Also said that he started growing a beard after he returned from SA.
A source tells Dina that witnesses appeared to recognize his voice and build even though he was wearing a ski mask. His brother, a source told Dina, is also a subject of the investigation.
“We followed up on some tips that took us to a residence in the city of Redlands,” Burguan said. “When officers were setting up on that residence to watch it, there was a vehicle that was seen leaving that was suspected of being involved. There ended up being a pursuit … the suspects’ vehicle stopped and there was an officer-involved shooting.” Source: NPR
UPDATE 8:54 AM CT Dec. 3, 2015: Fox’s Jonathan Hunt quotes some of Farook’s online descriptions of himself on a dating site: “religious but modern family of four,” “just hang out in backyard doing target practice with younger sister”.
UPDATE 8:54 AM CT Dec. 3, 2015: LA Times reporting that Syed Farook had traveled to Saudi Arabia:
They said Farook recently traveled to Saudi Arabia and returned with a new wife he had met online. The couple had a baby and appeared to be “living the American dream,” said Patrick Baccari, a fellow health inspector who shared a cubicle with Farook. . . .
They and other colleagues said Farook was a devout Muslim, but rarely discussed religion at work.
“He never struck me as a fanatic, he never struck me as suspicious,” said Griselda Reisinger, who worked with Farook before leaving the agency in May.
Reisinger said she heard that the office recently threw a baby shower for Farook and that he had taken paternity leave. Source: LA Times
From Fox, Trace Gallagher: The couple had a six month old child, dropped him/her her off with grandparents before the jihad.
UPDATE 8:54 AM CT Dec. 3, 2015: We are back to the middle name beginning with an “R,” Rizwan, apparently.
UPDATE 12:24 AM CT: Dec. 3, 2015: Police conference just concluded. Syed Farook’s middle name started with a “Y” (nope, Rizwan), I believe, but KTLA is still using Syed R. Farook. The deceased woman with Farook was identified as Tashfeen Malik, 27. It is unknown if they were married or “boyfriend and girlfriend.” Farook was 28 years old, and the Chief of Police said he was born in the U.S. He also said that it’s his understanding that Farook worked for the county for five years, went to the party, did leave early, maybe angry. Farook attended the same party last year. There were explosive devices found inside the building (not sure about the SUV) and those devices were disposed of –– said the word “pipe,” but seemed unsure exactly what the devices were. He said he was told from the time Farook left the party to the time he returned was between 20 minutes and 30 minutes. Adam Housely with Fox has been told both were wearing Go-Pro Cameras (UPDATE .
I’d like to know who the person was lying in the street in a pool of blood.
UPDATE 11:37 PM CT: Megyn Kelly and Catherine Herridge are now reporting that the third suspect “Tayyeep Bin Ardogan” may be a hoax, and they believe now that Sayed Farook WAS IN THE SUV –– and perhaps his wife.
UPDATE 10:45 PM CT: Another San Bernardino Suspect: Tayyeep Bin Ardogan (maybe not, look at the link above)
UPDATE 10:07 CT: Adam Housely, with Fox News is reporting that police now believe there were only two shooters, and both are dead. From this the assumption is that Farook is not dead, or . . .Reporting from Catherine Herridge is that Farook was “involved.”
UPDATE 9:56 PM CT: Catherine Herridge on Fox is saying that the name Syed Farook is separate from the two dead bodies found in or near the SUV. She is saying that the name is a “strong suspect,” and “involved” but not among the dead.
An earlier photo posted here is believed not to be the same man pictured above.
Fox is quoting his father saying that his son was a “devout Muslim.”
