Three third graders at Sonora Elementary School in Sonora, California were caught smoking pot in the school bathroom. Another student walked in on them and reported it, police were called and the children, two aged 8 and one 9, were released to their parents. No mention that the parent’s homes were searched, so apparently they were not. I can’t keep up with the state’s wonky laws, but I think at this time, pot is allowed for medical purposes only. Parents want to know where the kids got the marijuana and one parent was “shocked” that they had “their own pipe.” Indeed. According to the 2010 census, Sonora had a population of just under 5,000 with 2200 households, so sussing out who supplied these kids shouldn’t be that difficult. Read the story here.
In November 2013 an arson fire devastated at least 15 classroom of the school, just recently equipped with iPads, video projectors and white boards, estimated at $30,000 of new equipment destroyed. A 17-year-old male was arrested four days later. Total damage is estimated at $3 million. The last news I find about the fire is that a determination was underway in December as to whether he will be tried as a juvenile or an adult.
