Michelle Obama’s Spring Break trip to Beiijing, China with her daughters and her mother, Marion Robinson, is billed as soft ball politics only, a few chats with China’s First Lady, Peng Liyuan about education — that’s about it, so why a 3400 sq. ft. hotel room for four people? There are 70 in Michelle’s entourage, there are only four women in the $8,350 per night hotel suite. Gossip is that Beiijing is breathlessly waiting to see who wins the wardrobe wear-off, Peng or Michelle:
Michelle Obama’s white shirt was tight, with giant flounces. It was feminine, stylish, and delivered a strong and independent office look. Peng Liyuan’s white shirt, on the other hand, was wide in the cuffs and shoulders. It was elegant, classic, and especially so when she matched it with a same color tote and earrings.
Both Michelle and Peng are said to be “highly educated women who managed successful careers” before their husbands became “leaders.” Does this mean China’s First Lady lost her law license, as did Michelle Obama? Or did Peng Liyuan receive a job from a friend, maybe like Valerie Jarrett, because her husband was on his way up the ladder of political success? That’s all Michelle Obama accomplished. I wonder how it works in China?
Peng Liyuan is a “renowned contemporary folk singer (soprano) , received China’s first master’s degree in traditional ethnic music in 1980, holds the rank of Major General (civilian rank) in the People’s Liberation Army and has been married to President Xi Jingping for 25 years. She is equally as well-known as her husband, if not better known. He became president in March 2013.
Michelle Obama and three of her family members are staying in a $8,350-per-night Beijing presidential suite, but despite a 24-hour butler and other perks that come with the lodging, her entourage has inconvenienced ‘pretty much everyone’ and made the hotel staff ‘fed up,’ a well-placed hotel staffer has told MailOnline.
The sumptuous pad at the Westin Beijing Chaoyang hotel – its website calls the room ‘an oasis of comfort – is a 3,400-square-foot masterpiece including a private steam room, ‘corner sofas with silk pillows,’ and in-room dining for six.
But the Obamas’ stay has already affected staff and guests at the hotel, with the Westin front-desk veteran alleging that Mrs. Obama’s mother Marian Robinson has been ‘barking at the staff since she arrived.’
