Matthew McConaughey, star of Dallas Buyer’s Club, took the Oscar last night for his performance as Ron Woodroof, a straight man diagnosed with AIDS before the miracle meds arrived. In the photo below, left is McConaughey in the movie Magic Mike, and on the right, his Ron Woodroof character. From the Academy Awards stage last night, McConaughey thanked “God,” and there was some applause. See quote and video below.
There are things I need each day, one of them is something to look up to, the other is something to look forward to, and another is someone to chase.
Now, first off, I want to thank God, cause that’s who I look up to. He has graced my life with opportunities that I know are not of my hand or any any other human hand. He has shown me that it’s a scientific fat that gratitude reciprocates. In the words of the late Charlie Lawton Laughton, who said “when you got God, you got a friend.”
McConaughey didn’t thank a “higher power.” He thanked “God.”
[I could not attribute the quote to either Charlie Lawton or the great Charles Laughton. but Lawton, a director and actor is alive]
