Rule Change: Some Material Aid, Support to Terrorists Okay, Aiding Terrorism Must Be “Significant” to Deny Entry: 70% of Asylum Seekers Fraudulent

Another rule change from the Obama administration now allows some aid and support for terrorists to enter the country. To keep a person out of the U.S., the material aid and support must be “significant.” In 2009, a House Judiciary committee audit of our political asylum system, said to be a “secret” audit, concluded that 70% of asylum applications showed signs of fraud, with no information on how many of the 70% were allowed to stay in the U.S. This fits nicely with Senators John McCain, Marco Rubio, Lindsey Graham and Jeff Flake’s immigration bill that changed law making a forged passport a crime, to allowing three fraudulent passports before becoming a crime!  Why was such an audit “secret?” This information should have been in the public spotlight immediately, and Republicans should have been pounding it home for three years. In none of the instances given above and below, is it reasonable that ‘good people can agree to disagree.’

The 2009 fraud assessment, obtained by the House Judiciary Committee and reviewed by The Washington Times, suggests a system open to abuse and exploitation at a time when the number of people applying for asylum in the U.S. has skyrocketed, particularly along the southwestern border.

Another report obtained by the committee suggests that the government isn’t detaining most of those who apply for asylum, including those awaiting a final judgment.

Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte said the documents taint the credibility of the asylum system, which is designed to provide an outlet for foreigners who face real risks of being harmed if they remain in their home countries.

“Asylum fraud undermines the integrity of our immigration system and hurts U.S. taxpayers. Once individuals are granted asylum, they receive immediate access to all major federal welfare programs. Our immigration system should be generous to those persecuted around the globe, but we must also ensure our compassion isn’t being abused by those seeking to game the system,” Mr. Goodlatte, a Virginia Republican, said in a statement to The Times…

On Wednesday, the Obama administration announced changes that would make it easier for those who had tangential involvement with terrorism to win asylum or refugee status.

Under existing law, those who provided “material support” to terrorists are to be denied their claims, but State Department and Homeland Security officials announced a new policy that said the support has to have been significant, and must have occurred outside of normal commercial transactions or family interactions. In 2012, after being told they would be deported, 17,506 individuals filed an appeal and received legal asylum. Also in 2012, 29,484 not pegged for removal/deportation, received asylum. In 2012, 44% of seekers were denied asylum. Were they in the U.S. at the time of the denial, and were they deported? We don’t know

The countries of origin with the highest number of
asylum grants in 2012 were China, Egypt and
Venezuela.

Asylum cases must go through a judge, in a process that takes years, and during that time, many fraudulent asylum seekers roam our streets freely. The Egyptian Blind Sheikh, icon of the Muslim Brotherhood, scammed our process over and over and we let him do it. His nephew was Ramzi Yousef (also an asylum seeker) was the first World Trade Tower bomber in 1993. Omar Abdel-Rahman (The Blind Sheikh) directed that bombing while awaiting his asylum decision. See four more such instances here.

Syria:

It was just a matter of time before the Obama Administration bowed to international pressure and lobbying from taxpayer-funded resettlement contractors and “human rights” groups to relax security requirements that have here-to-fore made it difficult for them to open our doors to Syrian ‘refugees.’ Source: Refugee Resettlement Watch

Remember the young female police chief in Praxedis, Mexico, Marisol Valles Garcia? She fled Mexico in early 2011, to the U.S., in fear of her life after threats from her country’s drug cartels, and is still awaiting our asylum decision. Valles Garcia is a very public figure. She is not safe from cartels in the U.S. either, but surely, almost three years later, we could have closed this file on way or the other.

In June 2013, the U.S. Senate passed a bill giving “alternatives” to the detention of asylum seekers. The legislation also authorized seekers to receive “work authorization,” to enable them to work while awaiting a decision on their legality — again, which might take years.

The following are just two items from Refugee Resettlement Watch’s FAQ (bookmark it here):

14. The Obama administration has placed a priority on LGBTQI asylum seekers and refugees. This has resulted in an upsurge of asylum requests on this basis – even from countries like England! Since the State Department does not keep data about numbers admitted by reason for admission, we can’t obtain exact numbers of those admitted on the basis of LBGTQI persecution, but one private refugee agency has set up an office in Nairobi, Kenya to assist intending LBGTQI refugees.   This office also advises about how to get into the refugee pipeline.  In other words, a private contractor is recruiting refugees who will eventually become the contractor’s  profit-generating clients.   At the 2012 conference of refugee contractors sponsored by the DHHS Office of Refugee resettlement a refugee contractor demanded that Medicaid pay for sex change operations if needed by newly arrived refugees.

15.   The program has gradually shifted towards the resettlement of refugees from Muslim countries. Some individuals from Muslim countries are Christians or other minorities, but most are Muslims. In the early 90’s the percentage of Muslim refugees was near 0; by 2000 the program was 44% Muslim. The Muslim component decreased after 911, but today is back up to about 40% and is set to rise from here.

Membership in a U.S.-registered Islamic terrorist group is not a bar to entry on the program as long as the refugee was not a “direct participant” in “terrorist” activity.
