As Ukraine GunOwners Call for Their Own Second Amendment, Former SCOTUS Justice Calls for Changing Ours

As Ukrainian protesters take-over and hold Kiev, gun owners there are calling for their own constitutional Second Amendment and the right to keep and bear arms, but I doubt they include language about “A well regulated Militia….” At the same time, former SCOTUS Justice, John Paul Stevens is calling for a rewrite of our Second Amendment that allows that right only “when serving in the militia.”

Our Second Amendment is written:

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

The word “the” is just one more denial of Second Amendment rights.

Justice Stevens’ messing with self-defense:

when serving in the militia.”

Steve at Cry and Howl:

Now anyone can understand what, if that were to happen, would be the result; immediate confiscation of privately owned firearms and disarming of the American public, ie. anyone not serving in the ”militia”.  And then we have the highly intellectual far-left liberal who takes it a step farther … (read it here — you won’t believe it, and another think you will shake your head at is Stevens’ take on the Founders intent, and it has nothing to do with militias.)

In Ukraine:

According to, Ukraine’s gun laws are described as restrictive. The government owns seven million guns while there are only three million guns for private citizens. A citizen must prove they have a legitimate reason to own a firearm. Read more at Breitbart

Around the world, people understand our Second Amendment, and given the opportunity, ALL those who have lived under the active threat of an armed government, being left with no way to protect themselves, will choose our system.

Amazing, isn’t it? And Stevens was a Nixon appointee. There is certainly no shortage of idiots in this country.

When a good citizen goes into the well regulated militia, he or she needs to know how to lock and load beforehand, in order to fulfill the good citizen part. The people are the state, and they secure the state regardless of the militia. They do a better job at this in some parts of the country than in others.

John Paul Stevens doesn’t take into account the millions of slaughtered innocents around the world by the militias. What he’s proposing is the oppression by the United States militia against it’s own citizens.

Hell, if they want to change something, change ‘right’ to ‘requirement’.

Justice Stevens has proven what a dunce he is regarding the constitution and what his job was as a Supreme Court Justice. It is a sad historical footnote that when the founding fathers gave us the 2nd amendment they choose to put in a four word preface (A well regulated militia) as an explanation why they valued private ownership of firearms. The historical record is quite clear that the founding fathers intended the citizens have unfettered access to guns and meant it to be a right that neither the federal nor the state governments could infringe. It is quite clear to any honest person who studies the issue that the constitution affirms our right to own and carry on our person firearms and that the government cannot legally infringe on that right. But those four little words has given the left the excuse to do just what the 2nd amendment prevents them from doing. In most states this right has been infringed and in many states wildly infringed. The maze of 50 states laws and federal laws insures that if you own a gun and have moved from one state to another or traveled or simply transported your gun to hunting or target shooting that you have broken a law. Imagine that you live within 1000 yards of a school and you take your gun from your home and walk to your driveway and place it in your car’s trunk and then drive off to go hunting you probably broke a law that would put you in jail for two years, cost you all your assets in lawyers fees to defend it and put you in debt to pay the fines. And yet your rights “shall not be infringed”.

  • Someone should ask the people in Kiev if they think serving in a militia should be a requirement before possessing a firearm. Perhaps Stevens could move to the Ukraine.

A lesson for the United States. To ensure freedoms one must have open gun ownership.

The right to free speech shall not be abridged when standing in a government-approved “free speech zone.”
The right to be free from unwarranted searches and seizures shall not be abridged when belonging to a government-approved political party.
See, Stevens just wants to make things easier for everybody too understand.
