Remember when hairnets were used by all food workers, for sanitary reasons…to protect customers? Back then, Health Departments apparently ‘cared.’ We haven’t seen that for awhile, but maybe some entrepreneur can come up with a hairnet for beards. Shaheed Khan walked away with $50,000 after he sued and McDonalds settled. Surely now, every worker at McDonalds can wear a beard.
Khan was apparently NOT hired with a beard in 2001. He was NOT hired under conditions that he shave his beard. After four years or more of working for McDonalds, and being promoted, he decided he wanted a beard.
My recommendation to businesses is to practice discrimination against risky employees in the first place, and you know that is exactly what will happen. Be discriminating. Be careful. The regime is watching. Yes, President Zippy’s administration may think they sticking to American businesses, but in the end, it will have an unintended consequence. Businesses will be forced to be even more discriminating in the hiring process, or they won’t survive. Source: Blur Brain
McDonald’s To Pay $50,000 To Muslim Employee In Discrimination LawsuitDecember 20, 2013 7:31 PM
FRESNO, Calif. (AP) — McDonald’s has agreed to pay $50,000 to settle a lawsuit that claimed it discriminated against a Muslim employee in Fresno who wasn’t allowed to grow a beard.
The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission says the settlement was reached Thursday with McDonald’s Restaurants of California.
According to the suit, Shaheed Khan was a crew trainer at a Fresno McDonald’s in 2005 when he asked to wear a beard to work, citing religious beliefs. He quit after the request was refused.
The commission filed a lawsuit alleging civil rights violations. Under the settlement, McDonald’s agreed to pay $50,000 to Shaheen and to reinforce training of its managers and staff on existing anti-discrimination policies.
Muslims routinely sue McDonald and win. In Detroit, a $700,000 settlement for falsely claiming food was Halal. A lawsuit in 2008 because McDonald’s didn’t want workers wearing hijabs. And another like Khan, a woman applied for a job at McDonald’s with no hijab, but showed up the first day wearing one (read more stories here).
