Constitution’s Worst Fear: Concentrating Power in EVERY Government Branch – Happening Now

Liberal Professor Jonathan Turley testified on Capital Hill this week saying the one real danger the U.S. Constitution protects us from is “concentration of power in every single branch,” and he essentially says the breach of that protection is near full-blown.

JONATHAN TURLEY: Thank you, Mr. Chairman. The danger is quite severe. The problem with what the president is doing is that he’s not simply posing a danger to the constitutional system. He’s becoming the very danger the Constitution was designed to avoid. That is the concentration of power in every single branch.

This Newtonian orbit that the three branches exist in is a delicate one but it is designed to prevent this type of concentration. There is two trends going on which should be of equal concern to all members of Congress. One is that we have had the radical expansion of presidential powers under both President Bush and President Obama. We have what many once called an imperial presidency model of largely unchecked authority. And with that trend we also have the continued rise of this fourth branch. We have agencies that are quite large that issue regulations. The Supreme Court said recently that agencies could actually define their own or interpret their own jurisdiction.

Every department has usurped your power. In the case of Barack Obama, those department heads are ideologically joined at the brain with him and have been for decades. As much as fair-minded citizens want to include Bush in the same growth of bureaucratic power, it’s not quite the same. There was no ideological embrace at the State Department for GW. Bush didn’t clean house. Shame on him. We are paying for his lack of discretion today. He let the Left control his DOJ, and  he gobbled up private American land for government control at a gallop. That’s just for starters, but there is no fair comparison of the Bush audacity to the Obama audacity. Watch the video at The Weekly Standard.

When a very Left-minded Professor Jonathan Turley admits it’s happening now, the worst that can happen to the U.S. Constitution other than an all-out Military coup at the direction of the Oval Office, the question remains…

What do we do about it? We have unknown numbers of far-left liberals to be named to the courts and Obama is there for three more years. What do we do about it?

  • Actually an attempted military coup would be the best we could hope for — it would divide the military and give cause to those opposed to what is happening to join forces against the tyrants in Washington. But not yet — they will put some other things in place first before they try straight-up coercion.

    • Norma, point well taken. The hope is, there are a few of the powerful still in the military not buying into it. I’m beginning to doubt it. He’s dropping them like flies.

Someone smarter than I will come up with an act of civil disobedience that we can all easily participate in on a national level. Maybe its withdrawing every cent from banks and accounts. Maybe it’s adding three blind children as dependents on you income tax returns. Maybe it’s dropping all health insurance until there’s a free market fix. Maybe someone is sitting on the perfect idea right now….what is it? Share the information…pick a date to begin….spread the word…and lets go!

    • Jay, I hope that person is out there. I’m reading. I’m watching. I’m waiting. Of course, hundreds of thousands did the same Germany.

You are absolutely right to call out Turley on the “Bush did it too” meme. The libs, only example of that, which is still incorrect because he got Cong. approval, is the Iraq War. The Left continues insane babbling about that and conflate it with expanded Presidential powers.
Bush actually wanted to reform Social Security, but couldn’t get the support and DID NOT bypass Congress. On NCLB, which everybody hates, he reached across the aisle to Congress and Ted Kennedy, he didn’t do it on his own.
What is true is the part about the bureaucracy, which is a cancer, which has metastasized under Obama.
Turley, and others, are trying to appear to be responsible after going along with all of the Big Government Knows Best schemes for decades.
What they can’t run from is that that type arrangement always ends with a carter, an Obama or a Hitler.

    • bobmontgomery, funny how the left is running right to disclaim what they’ve known but could no longer hide. I’d love to see just one piece of work Obama did on the Constitution as a “constitutional scholar and professor.”
