An internal email sent by the Social Security Administration has instructed employees to warn SS recipients calling-in that their benefits will be at risk if the debt ceiling is not raised. While Seniors may not get their SS checks if the debt ceiling is not raised (it WILL be raised if history is an indicator) there is no indication that food stamps, Obama phones, duplicative government programs or grants for educating illegals will stop – ever.
“If a member of the public asks whether their Social Security payment will be affected if the federal debt ceiling is not raised, you may give the following response:
‘Unlike a federal shutdown which has no impact on the payment of Social Security benefits, failure to raise the debt ceiling puts Social Security benefits at risk.’

Obama’s statement (see above linked article):
“In a government shutdown, Social Security checks still go out on time,” President Barack Obama said Thursday, the Huffington Post reported. “In an economic shutdown, if we don’t raise the debt ceiling, they don’t go out on time.”
The government has more tax revenue coming in at any time in our history. He, Obama, can prioritize. If the debt ceiling is not raised, bond debt can be honored.
