Within the first 21 days after the attacks on our Benghazi Special Mission, on 32 occasions (that’s thirty-two!), Barack Obama declared al-Qaeda’s core “decimated” or “on a path to defeat,” “on the run,” “weakened,” and other indications that they were not nearly as fearsome as in the past. Tomorrow, Sunday August 4, 2013 ALL U.S. embassies in Islamist countries will close for at least one day or maybe longer, due to credible threats from al-Qaeda. Americans in those countries are warned that the entire month of August 2013 may be a more dangerous time than usual.
“Current information suggests that al-Qa’ida and affiliated organizations continue to plan terrorist attacks both in the region and beyond,” a U.S. Department of State document said. “[Al-Qa’ida] may focus efforts to conduct attacks in the period between now and the end of August.”
“Terrorists may elect to use a variety of means and weapons and target both official and private interests. U.S. citizens are reminded of the potential for terrorists to attack public transportation systems and other tourist infrastructure. Terrorists have targeted and attacked subway and rail systems, as well as aviation and maritime services. U.S. citizens should take every precaution to be aware of their surroundings and to adopt appropriate safety measures to protect themselves when traveling. Source: U.S. State Department
There are no safe places for us in these countries. There are specific warnings about transit systems and anywhere there is an official American presence. If you don’t have to be there, why would you go there?
The travel alert issued Friday warned Americans of the “continued potential for terrorist attacks, particularly in the Middle East and North Africa, and possibly occurring in or emanating from the Arabian Peninsula.”
It said: “Current information suggests that al-Qa’ida and affiliated organizations continue to plan terrorist attacks both in the region and beyond, and that they may focus efforts to conduct attacks in the period between now and the end of August.”
See the list of embassy closings here. The UK is closing their embassy in Yemen for one day.
It’s a good time for al-Qaeda and affiliates. They’ve watched the murder of a U.S. Ambassador with no consequences (other than jail time for an American-resident filmmaker who “insulted” Islam). Appeasement and ineptness are no match for jihadists. The closings happen on Barack Obama’s birthday.
