The website of Islamist Sheik (Shaykh) Abdulla bin Bayyah, says the White House sought his advice on Syria and asked him to attend a meeting with administration officials inside the White House, after which Obama announced the U.S. would arm Syrian rebels. Bin Bayyah is the vice-president of the International Union of Muslim Scholars (IUMS), serving under founder, Yusuf al-Qaradawi who is banned from entering the U.S. and the U.K. He was jailed three times in Egypt and fled that country for some 30 years, returning only after Hosni Mubarak was ousted and the Muslim Brotherhood was in place to rise to power. Al-Qaradawi had a triumphant return to Cairo and led Friday prayers for the first time since 1981 on February 18, 2011. Gaaaaahhh, we beg advice from a terrorist and beg Russia to return our whistleblower.
Bin Bayyah, as VP of the IUMS “endorsed a fatwa calling for the killing of American troops and other personnel serving in Iraq.” Bin Bayyah’s visit to the White House and close association with Qaradawi, who is also the current president of the European Council for Fatwa and Research (ECFR) – justifiying jihad for young Muslims, should do more than raise eyebrows. Qaradawi has called for the deaths of Americans and Jews. ECFR does not recognize Israel’s right to exist.
This marks a new low for the administration that, in brazen violation of U.S. counterterrorism law, previously invited a member of the Blind Shiekh’s terrorist organization for consultations at the White House… Source: National Journal, Andrew C. McCarthy
Abdullah bin Bayyah’s website announced his visit to the White House, said it was requested by the administration and The Investigative Project says that meeting took place June 13, 2013. Bin Bayyah said he will call for “the protection of the Syrian people and justice for the Palestinians, as he meets with Obama’s senior advisers and an “aide” or “aides” to Barack Obama.
The website was apparently updated saying he met with “Ms. Kyle Smith great aide to President Barack Obama,” and (as translated)
“Mr. Rashad Hussain U.S. Ambassador to the Organization of the Islamic Conference and a number of experts, including Assistant Director of Relations General in the White House and Assistant National Security Adviser and .representatives from seven government agencies.”
According to the The Investigative Project, Steve Emerson and John Rossomando, Bayyah’s website originally named National Security Adviser Tom Donilon attending the meeting, but Donilon’s name was later deleted. The authors also name White House Spokesperson Jennifer Palmieri in attendance.
In granting Bin Bayyah a visa, White House officials ignored his radical statements as well as his close connection to Qaradawi. The IUMS’s hostility toward Israel, and its support of terrorists, is well documented. Bin Bayyah falls comfortably in line with that view.
For example, in a 2011 statement on his Arabic-language website, he criticized the West for placing Palestinian terrorist groups such as Hamas, Palestinian Islamic Jihad and others in the same category as al-Qaida:
“[P]lacing the Palestinian resistance, which defends internationally recognized rights, on an equal footing with intercontinental terrorist organizations (al-Qaida) is not based on any moral principle and would be detrimental to the cause of the fight against terrorism and mix the cards and raises questions to the world conscience and serves terrorists.”
The IUMS welcomed Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh as a member in February 2012. The “Union will spare nothing in the service of the Palestinian people, praising the jihad of the Palestinian people with the leadership of the Hamas movement for resistance,” Haniyeh’s induction certificate said.
A 2004 fatwa, issued while Bin Bayyah was an IUMS board member, sanctioned “resistance,” meaning attacks on American troops in Iraq as a duty on every able Muslim in and outside Iraq.”…
In 2009, it issued a fatwa forbidding any normalization of relations with Israel. It came on the 42ndanniversary of the Six-Day War, and Israel’s capturing of the Temple Mount. Source: The Investigative Project
…Qaradawi is founder and president of the International Association of Muslim Scholars, which has issued several anti-Zionist fatwas (religious edicts). He is chairman of the IslamOnline website, which has published numerous articles and religious rulings which were anti-Semitic, anti-Israel, and supportive of violence against non-Muslims. He is alsochairman (in absentia) of the board of trustees at the Michigan-based Islamic American University (IAU), a subsidiary of the Muslim American Society. And he is president of the Union of Good, a Saudi-based umbrella organization which represents Islamic fundraising groups worldwide, and which has transferred tens of millions of dollars directly to Hamas over the years.
