Harry Reid: Ted Cruz is Schoolyard Bully – Cruz: Didn’t Know We Were in a Schoolyard

Senate Harry Reid apparently does believe Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) is the equivalent of a 6th grader and the larger Senate body nothing more than elementary politicians. Reid, from the Senate floor, attacked Republican Senator Ted Cruz (TX) saying Cruz was a “schoolyard bully.” A month or so ago, Cruz had to educate Feinstein on the Constitution and he did it clearly, concisely and professionally – he was doing his job. Feinstein replied in that familiar haughty female manner, “I’m not a 6th grader.” A majority of the U.S. Senate has no more than a 6th grade education on the Constitution or are willing to, and comfortable with, subverting it. The American people do not deserve Harry Reid’s childish leadership.

“My friend from Texas is like the schoolyard bully,” Reid said. “He pushes everybody around and is losing, and instead of playing the game according to the rules, he not only takes the ball home with him but changes the rules. That way no one wins except the bully who tries to indicate to people he has won. We’re asking Republicans to play by the rules and let us go to conference.”

We finally have a Defending Father in the Senate, and he fully understand how his Republican peers are willing to run from the real bullies.

Reid then needled him on Senate procedure, as Cruz kept saying he was reserving the right to object but not actually objecting.

“There is either an objection or no objection,” Reid said. “Let’s hear a — we’ve had enough, ‘reserving the right to object.’”

“Reserving the right to object,” Cruz repeated.

Reid appeared to become annoyed.

“Mr. President, there is no such thing, OK?” Reid responded.

“Mr. President, I object,” Cruz said and threw up his arms.

On the issue of the conference, Cruz took a different tactic in objecting than most Senate Republicans, who have offered only tepid pushback as Democrats have painted them as obstructionists.

“This conference report could be used to pass a reconciliation bill to increase the debt ceiling without sufficient input from the minority party,” Cruz said.

We have other Republicans in the Senate who are heroes on may issues, but once Jim DeMint left, at least publicly, we have had no one concentrate on defend the Constitution until Ted Cruz.
