In October 2012 Hillary Clinton said we had a “robust” security inside our Benghazi Mission. The February 17th Martyrs Brigade were stationed on the Benghazi Mission grounds, or at least had a base there. They were on the scene on the night of September 11, 2012. As early as September 21, 2011, a report that communications between the Brigade and al-Qaeda were intercepted and the Brigade was told to “stand down.” See that about halfway down. Then be reminded that Hillary hired a UK company that were forbidden to use real bullets, but first, read these chilling words from John Rosenthal at Newsmax
That organization, the February 17th Martyrs Brigade, was paid by the U.S. government to provide security at the U.S. diplomatic mission in Benghazi, Libya. But there is no indication the Martyrs Brigade fulfilled its commitment to defend the mission on Sept. 11, when it came under attack.
Several entries on the militia’s Facebook page openly profess sympathy for Ansar al-Sharia, the hardline Islamist extremist group widely blamed for the deadly attack on the mission. The State Department did not respond to a Newsmax request for an explanation as to why the February 17th Martyrs Brigade was hired to protect the mission.
On April 23, House Republicans released an interim progress report on their investigation into the Benghazi killings. It cited “numerous reports” that “the Brigade had extremist connections, and it had been implicated in the kidnapping of American citizens as well as in the threats against U.S. military assets.”
The report also stated that just a few days before Stevens arrived in Benghazi, the Martyrs Brigade informed State Department officials they no longer would provide security as members of the mission, including Stevens, traveled through the city.
As I look back through my early posts on the Benghazi attacks, I found that I linked to The Daily Beast reporting evidence that the February 17th Brigade was told to stand-down in communications from al-Qaeda:
What’s more, two U.S. intelligence officials told The Daily Beast that the intelligence community is currently analyzing an intercept between a Libyan politician whose sympathies are with al Qaeda and the Libyan militia known as the February 17 Brigade—which had been charged with providing local security to the consulate. In the intercept, the Libyan politician apparently asks an officer in the brigade to have his men stand down for a pending attack—another piece of evidence implying the violence was planned in advance.
On September 20th, 2012, there was a report that security for our Benghazi Mission was also hired by the British. The agreement is that hired security will be from among 8 firms on a previously approved list, but Hillary chose the company, and she chose Blue Mountain, a UK firm, NOT on the list of the 8 approved. Breitbart reported that Clinton chose Blue Mountain because they agreed to a “no bullets” policy.
We shouldn’t have been in Libya at all. After 2012 summer violence, several countries closed up shop. “We were the last Western flag flying in Benghazi,” a quote from Reps. Darrell Issa and Jason Chaffetz, but it is widely believe Ambassador Chris Stevens was there as a gateway for getting arms to Syrian rebels. It is impossible to pick and choose who is trustworthy in Muslim countries…impossible.
