With so many promises from the Gang of 8 that the border would be closed before the gate to a pathway to citizenship is opened, Texas Congressman Lamar Smith (R) says there is no border security and nearly every illegal is given amnesty, along with their relatives outside this country and the previously deported.
“It’s hard to believe, but the Senate immigration bill is worse than we thought. Despite assurances, the border is not secured before almost everyone in the country illegally is given amnesty. The bill guarantees there will be a rush across the border to take advantage of massive amnesty.”
Rep. Smith says the Senate immigration bill shreds current immigration laws:
“And the Senate proposal offers amnesty to far more illegal immigrants than we thought. In addition to most of the 11 million illegal immigrants already in the country, the bill offers to legalize the relatives of illegal immigrants outside the U.S. and even others who have already been deported back home. So current immigration laws are shredded.
“The Senate bill is bad news for the American people. The good news is that the House Judiciary Committee will come up with a better plan that improves our immigration system and puts the interests of American workers first.” Source: CNS News
The bill requires that 100% of the border be “monitored” and “90%” of all those crossing be apprehended. As if Homeland Security and Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) would actually catch and return a illegal. That’s not a proper way to get Democrat voters and it won’t happen and most of America knows it. So there is an answer to that pesky problem in the bill. If DHS fails, we form a “border commission” to take over the job – after five years of failure.
Any illegal in the U.S. before December 31, 2011 may apply for temporary legal status. After ten years, they can apply for a green card and pay a $2,000 fine (remember we were told they would pay a “large” fine?), and they must pay back taxes and fees. Uncertain whether they begin paying back taxes on acquisition of their green card.
Business owners must use a government program to verify anyone they hire is here legally – sometime up to within 5 years. Whether this is E-Verify or a new program – not sure. Anyway, they can keep hiring for up to 5 years.
Here’s one for your funny bone. The legislation requires DHS to track all “immigrants each time they enter and exit” the U.S.
Rep. Smith says relatives will be allowed in, and will expand the 11 Million here now by large numbers (my words, not his). The bill says some visas for “relatives” will be reduced to make room for “immigrants” who “specialize in science, technology, math and engineering or IN OTHER LOW SKILLED AREAS.” Read more at USA Today
To get business support, the bill would create a new system of visas for temporary agricultural workers and low-skilled laborers as well as expand the number of specialized, highly-trained foreigners allowed to enter the country to work for technology companies.
To avoid alienating fiscal conservatives in both parties, the proposal denies most federal benefits to the immigrants until they achieve permanent status in the United States, which could take 10 years. Source: Courant
Note in the quotation above that Democrats see denying benefits to illegals as something they must give up to achieve Republican support. What a sad time in America that American taxpayers are expected to pay these benefits, and have been doing so for years.
As noted earlier today, the bill also calls for taxpayer-funded cell phones for people living and or working in border areas in this country, as an emergency measure. We have allowed the area to become completely lawless and apparently have no plans to clean it up. The bill does not specify that aliens in the area on work visas should and would NOT receive a free phone, now known as the Marco phone, although Senator Marco Rubio says the phones are for Americans only. Right. Read the text of the full bill here.
