West Coast Swing Saturday Night – Jitterbug with Gary and Charlotte Chaney

The surprise comes at 1:40 in. Gary and Charlotte Chaney are from St. Louis, dancing at the Chicago Windy City Jitterbug Club and I believe a third dancer is “Debbie.” Thanks to my next-to-the-littlest brother ♥

WOW! What a refreshing change of pace. Nice to see people having fun and very nice to come here and not leave angry, worried or depressed! I am most definitely a man on two left feet. I always admire couples (or triples) who can skip the light fantastic. Thanks for this great post!!

  • Ken, so glad you enjoyed it. I certainly did. Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment 🙂

  • That might be a jitterbug club, but those three peeps are doing West Coast Swing – and quite will, I might add.

West Coast Swing is notable for the dancers staying in “line” or “slot.” The count is 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 & 6.

Notice the major motion in the lower body and the still shoulders. Excellent example of how it’s done. The knees are used as “pistons” and the feet are tight and precise.

How do I know? Over 10 years as a ballroom instructor with Fred Astaire Dance Studios (and more than one national dance competition trophy sitting on my shelf.)

  • And……………..I might add that the reason he’s so good is because of his “fluffiness.” When you are a guy and you have a bit of bulk in the middle of your body it drops your center of gravity making you, in many cases, a much more centered dancer than a tall skinny guy.
