In the video below, Candy Crowley says she tried to bone-up on Benghazi, before the debate. When Romney indicated that it took a couple of weeks for the White House to admit the Benghazi attacks were terrorist attacks, Obama objected. The look on both their faces was very stern. Obama insisted that he called it a terrorist attack on September 12, 2012 in a Rose Garden Speech. Romney wasn’t buying it. Crowley stepped in and told Romney Obama was right and she had the transcript, which she flourished – giving the crowed a reason to cheer, confirming what we already knew, most of the audience were not undecideds. Now she’s changed her story, but in a rather odd way. First, the pertinent snippets of what Obama actually said in the Rose Garden:
No acts of terror will ever shake the resolve of this great nation, alter that character, or eclipse the light of the values that we stand for. Today we mourn four more Americans who represent the very best of the United States of America. We will not waver in our commitment to see that justice is done for this terrible act. And make no mistake, justice will be done.
But before saying the above, Obama said this:
We reject all efforts to denigrate the religious beliefs of others. But there is absolutely no justification to this type of senseless violence. None.
He wasn’t talking about Muslims denigrating any western belief, he was talking about the anti-Islam film and continued to talk about it for about 4 weeks without saying the attack was an terrorist attack
Candy Crowley interview after tonight’s debate:
I heard the President’s speech at the time, I sort of reread a lot of stuff about Libya because I knew we’d probably get a question Libya question, so I kinda wanted to be up on it. So we knew that the President had said “these acts of terror won’t stand,” or whatever the whole quote was, and I think actually – you know, because right after that I did turn around and say but you’re totally correct that they spent two weeks telling us that this was about a tape and there was this, you know, riot outside the Benghazi Consulate, which there wasn’t, so he was right in the main. I just think he picked the wrong word. You know, they’re going to parse it, and we all know about what the definition of is is, but in the end is, I think John’s probably right… (we don’t know who John is – someone on the CNN panel with Anderson Cooper I suspect.)
So what do you think?
UPDATE 10-17-12 9:40 am CDT: This morning Breitbart is reporting that on September 30th, Crowley corrected David Axelrod on CNN’s State of the Union when he said Obama said Benghazi was an “act of terror” the day after. She knew what she was doing. It was probably planned to give Obama a boost.
