The “Imprisoned Omar Abdel Rahman Brigades” wanted/wants the release of the Blind Sheik, Omar Abdel Rahman who is imprisoned in North Carolina. The Brigades attacked the International Red Cross office in Benghazi in August, and two month earlier, June 2012, detonated a bomb outside the Benghazi Consulate office where Ambassador Stevens was murdered on September 11th. That bombing was in retaliation for the death-by-drone of al-Qaeda’s second-in-command, Abu Yahya al Libi (read it here at CNN, dated June 6, 2011). There was damage to glass on the front of the Consulate, but no injuries. Leaflets left at the bombing site promised more attacks on Americans.

The Imprisoned Omar Abdul Rahman Brigades were first heard from when they claimed responsibility for an attack on a Red Cross office in Benghazi late last month. A purported video of the attack was apparently posted on jihadist websites that regularly feature statements by al Qaeda. The video showed several rockets being fired into a building at nighttime. In claiming responsibility, the group stated, “We do not recognize [state] borders when we plan for our operations, and we have prepared a message that will soon reach America in response to polluting the clarity of the defiant city of Derna,” according to a translation by Flashpoint Partners, which monitors jihadist websites. Rahman, the Blind Sheik, is serving a life sentence for “seditious conspiracy” at the Butner Medical Center, a part of the Butner Federal Correctional Institution in Butner, North Carolina. Can you imagine the security needed there?

CNN is reporting that the Rahman Brigade is pro-al Qaeda:
“Some groups, such as the Ansar al-Sharia Brigades in Benghazi and Derna and the Imprisoned Omar Abdel Rahman Brigades have been involved in increasing shows of force and outright attacks against Western and other targets in Libya in recent months,” he said.
Nevertheless, Obama and Clinton continue to place the blame an obscure anti-Islam film that has shown only once and in a small Los Angeles theater. Ignore the drone strike. Ignore the Blind Sheik.
