Thomas Jefferson on Breast Feeding v Formula

It’s the tyranny stupid!

In a few weeks, mothers in New York will turn into guinea pigs under a new program designed to boost breastfeeding rates.

Called Latch On NYC, the program requires participating hospitals to stop giving out free promotional infant formula, prohibit distribution of promotional materials, as well as restricting access to formula and tracking distribution.

…the response to the Latch On initiative has been vitriolic. Families are accusing the government of forcing New York mothers to breastfeed and taking away choice. Apprehension about the program stems from the false [so says Globe and Mail] belief that formula will be locked up, mothers will be lectured by nurses every time they ask for a bottle and the only women who will be granted formula are those with a medical reason.

If that’s the case, why are so many hospitals across Canada moving to adopt similar models?

There are many reasons not to breast feed and many reasons to breast feed and none of them are the business of your Mayor. Let the mothers and fathers choose and not be hassled by city government. People like Bloomberg champion abortion, but if you are going to have a baby, you are going to do it their way. Unbelievable! Next comes the headcovering. hijab. headscarf. #&%@#**#

  • I breastfed 6 children. But Bloomberg has gone too far.

    • Opus, I completely agree. Breastfeeding is such a good, good thing, but should be a decision made by herself, or with the father and her doctor, if she wants to discuss the best thing to do for her baby.

  • Get the government out of our personal lives — the bedroom and the crib!

  • Isn’t it wonderful when a Mayor and a City can solve the most urgent of problems.

  • Geo

Why is it, that the very people [dopey libs] who constantly promote and push the dimocrap party agenda with “it’s my body, it’s my choice”, unfettered and practically unrestrained abortions . . . . . now say that the baby formula should be locked up and women should be lectured every time they decide they want to feed their child with formula?

There is NO aspect of our daily lives that is not controlled or influenced by these stateists, marxists, none! We have allowed this to happen, and it’s way past time to get it back where it should be. Out of our personal lives, out of our homes, out of our cars, out of reasonable parental and personal decisions. And that goes for members of both parties.

  • I am awaiting for the day one of those “nurses” tell a new mother no formula. If it was me, there would be dead nurses and doctors on that ward.

pure bias. There is zero evidence that breastfeeding results in better health or longer life. It is a valid and natural choice but the arguements made to prop it up are pure BS.

    • GoneWithTheWind, I agree completely. Even if there was evidence, it should be none of Bloomberg’s business.
