John at Nobama.com has come up with a video from an ABC interview from 2009, with Obama clearly acknowledging that he cut one-third of Medicare to pay for ObamaCare. Today we know that currently, health care costs per family have gone up at least $2200 per family annually. The transcript and video are below. See related stories below the video.
ABC MODERATOR: One of the concerns about health care and how you pay for it, one-third of it comes from cuts to Medicare…
[OBAMA NODS HIS HEAD IN AGREEMENT]
MODERATOR: As you know, what happens in Congress is that somebody will do something bold and then Congress, close to election season, will undo it.
MODERATOR: You saw that with the “Doc Fix.” [that’s an ignorant example – but that’s just my opinion]
MODERATOR: Are you willing to pledge that whatever cuts in Medicare are being made to fund health insurance, one-third of it – that you will veto anything that tries to undo that?
OBAMA: Yes, I have actually said that it is important for us to make sure this thing is deficit neutral, without tricks. I have said I wouldn’t sign a bill that didn’t meet that criteria and what I also said in that speech to the Joint Session was that I am willing to put in some safeguards where if we don’t obtain the savings that have been promised, then we have to make adjustments in terms of the benefits, because the goal here is to reduce costs for families, give them more security, but do so in a way that is not adding to our deficit, that in fact over the long term, if we can bend the cost curve, we will reduce our deficit, and I promise you, we are already starting to look at Fiscal Year 2011 budget, and the out-years and although we are in the midst of recession and we inherited a big fiscal deficit, nobody is more mindful than me of the fact that we can’t have a bill that simply blows up an additional entitlement that’s not paid for. [qualifies for the world’s longest sentence]
About the “Doc Fix,” every year since 2003 Congress has reauthorized the “Doc Fix.” If the “Doc Fix” is not fixed, every year, physicians treating Medicare patients will have a 27%+ decrease in their already reduced payment schedule. Reason.com has an instructive article on this and…it’s the congressional formula, stupid. I don’t know what needs to be done about this, but using the Doc Fix in the video as an example of election skullduggery is not appropriate. Visit Nobama’s homepage here.
