2004 Headline: Kenyan-born Obama Set for US Senate

Maybe a Botswanan newspaper cannot be considered legitimate news on American politics, but the AP took the report and ran with it. Big headline: Kenyan-born Obama all set for US Senate. In 2004, the AP was not so interested in hushing up the origins of Barack Obama. The photo used for the article is the photo below:

The Sunday Standard, June 27, 2004 (read the entire report here):

Kenyan-born US Senate hopeful, Barrack Obama, appeared set to take over the Illinois Senate seat after his main rival, Jack Ryan, dropped out of the race on Friday night amid a furor over lurid sex club allegations.

An Obama bio printed and circulated by his literary agent surfaced last week (see it here), claiming their client, Barack Obama, the author of the book they were promoting at the time, was born in Kenya. The agency, Acton and Dystal, promoted their booklet identifying Obama as Kenyan-born. The editor of the text at the time, Mariam Goderich (now a partner at Dystel & Goderich – which currently represents “Obama the author” says she misidentified his birth country. Doesn’t know why or how. “…nothing more than a fact checking error…” As with any U.S. President, the first thought would be that he was born in Kenya – right?

The promo booklet was 36 pages long, costing the Agency thousands of dollars, and included numerous celebrity-types (politicians and athletes) – not insignificant. Is it plausible to think Obama did not know a Kenyan birth was part of his bio? I doubt it.

The booklet hearlding a Kenyan birth stayed in circulation from 1991 until two months after declaring his presidential quest in February 2007. From the Acton and Dystel website archive:

BARACK OBAMA is the junior Democratic senator from Illinois and was the dynamic keynote speaker at the 2004 Democratic National Convention. He was also the first African-American president of the Harvard Law Review. He was born in Kenya to an American anthropologist and a Kenyan finance minister and was raised in Indonesia, Hawaii, and Chicago. His first book, DREAMS FROM MY FATHER: A STORY OF RACE AND INHERITANCE, has been a long time New York Times bestseller.

In April 2007, the bio was changed to say Obama was born in Hawaii. Thanks to FaultlineUSA for the link to the Sunday Standard article.

  • Isn’t it amazing? All the information we have been finding out…his birth certificate a fraud, his social security number a fraud and so forth and yet there he remains…our president. What I can not understand is why the republicans are silent on these things!

    • The left and the left press has successfully made anyone who talks about his birthplace.. to look like they’re just as off base as those who claim to have been abducted by UFOs.. Republican leaders have so little courage.. they want to be friends with the press.. and so they cower before them. They’ll never be loved by the press.

I am quite disappointed with the performance of “Obama” I never thought that he couldn’t satisfy every person who are able to salute with his leadership…

Wow. great topic. It is very intriguing for me. great post!

  • Is this a great country or what … Only in America can a non-citizen from Kenya be made President while all the liberals play a race card to deceive.

  • Hi there! Someone in my Facebook group shared this website with us so I came to check it out. I’m definitely enjoying the information. I’m bookmarking and will be tweeting this to my followers!

    • Well welcome to the family of the informed.

  • I do think he was born in Hawaii, but this man’s audacity to lie is something else. He has a lot of explaining to do.

  • Obama is Elizibeth Wareren on steroids.

  • Thanks for posting it Maggie. I actually read it online about five years ago. There will be those on the left that will claim that the story was false/phoney/fabricated etc. Kind of like a fabricated birth certificate. But I digress. The point is that there are far too many smoking guns with regard to Obama and where there’s smoke . . .

  • Wow, this does seem like a lifetime ago now, so much has happened since then, I almost thing of these as the “good old days”!

  • Besides the ludicracy that we still have questions after Obama’s been in office for 3 1/2 years, why isn’t anyone looking at what it does take to claim US citizenry? You would think this debate would spur us to take a hard look at anchor baby issue among other things.

  • The birth certificate that Obama had produced was actually rejected by the Hawaiian Home Lands Department. He has been hiding facts and is undoubtedly a fictitious person.

  • I never knew this things about Obama. Great article, very interesting

At the very least, Obama and his handlers manipulated his personal history to maximize his appeal to the electorate. Being born in Kenya was a boost for his rags to riches, poor man makes good appeal. It even has that ‘newly freed slave’ smell that women find irresistible. Never mind that his family and tribal ancestors were Muslim slavers going back hundreds of years. Just as it was convenient for that Warren woman to be Cherokee for a while, it was convenient for Obama to be a ‘real’ black African. Instead of the half black carpetbagger, he really is.

Belated welcome back to you Maggie. Nice blog ya got here, so stay healthy and active please.

Maybe begs the question, why not Kenyan newspapers? Maybe truth is looser half a continent away in Botswana land, and Kenya knows better?
