Spike Lee retweeted an incorrect address for George M. Zimmerman in Sanford, Florida. George M. Zimmerman is the man involved in the Neighborhood Watch shooting of Trayvon Martin. The address Lee reTweeted identified George W. Zimmerman or W. George Zimmerman. The Zimmerman with the
“W” in his name is on the property records. His mother and step-father have lived in the home for about 10 years. The Zimmerman with the “W.” in his name is shown on the voter records he used in 1995. “W” has not lived at the address for seven years. The Zimmerman with the “W” in his name, tweeted a plea to whomever actually Tweeted the wrong address, but 13 hours ago (it’s 11:15 am CDT this minute) Higgins Tweeted this: (See an UPDATE below)
@SpikeLee THAT ADDRESS IS NOT WRONG THEY JUST WANT PEOPLE TO THINK THAT……
Fox News is reporting that “W” pled with Higgins and received the following reply. In Higgins Tweet stream, I do not see the plea, although I don’t know “W’s” Twitter handle. I do see Higgins Tweeting a combination of these words:
“Black power all day. No justice, no peace” along with an obscenity.
“This is really scary, and I’m concerned for my family,” William Zimmerman said. “It’s scary because there are people who aren’t mentally right and will take this information and run with it. Source: Fox News
Twitchy.com, this morning at 7:29 am, said Lee has not removed his Tweet, although others are reporting it has been removed. It’s a long and ugly Tweet stream, but I don’t see it there. “Black Power” is Tweeted over and over.
The original Tweet, allegedly from Marcus Davon Higgins and allegedly posted to his Facebook page had this remark: “Feel Free to Reach Out and Touch Him.” Higgins also held up a sign at a rally with the incorrect address and a phone number, and repeatedly identified the address as the home of “George W. Zimmerman.” The residents of the home were forced to move to a hotel for their own safety.
A loud apology from Spike Lee is in order, as well as payment of the home owners expenses and some for the discomfort of being identified with a shooting. Lee should get down to Sanford and tell the crowds outside the home to move on. Something is very, very wrong when high-profile personalities are mimicking the New Black Panther call for an army of 10,000 Black men to hunt down George M. Zimmerman. “Feel Free to Reach Out and Touch Him.” If that’s not a threat, I don’t know what is. Read more at The Smoking Gun.
UPDATE 3-29-12: Spike Lee has apologized to the McClain’s, the people at the address that was retweeted. Now if he will pay their expenses, it will be a very good thing:
Lee apologized in a tweet sent late Wednesday: “I Deeply Apologize To The McClain Family For Retweeting Their Address. It Was A Mistake. Please Leave The McClain’s In Peace.”
