Recently I stopped by VerumSerum, which unfortunately will be no more, before long. John is joining the Breitbart staff. In October 2008, he broke the story (one among many) that Barack Obama and William ‘Bill’ Ayers’ shared an office for three years. THREE YEARS, yet Obama said Ayers was just a “guy in the neighborhood.” I sent John an email requesting that, with the clout of Breitbart behind him, maybe this story can be resurrected – because, after all, Obama said Weatherman terrorist, Bill Ayers was “just a guy in the neighborhood.” Today, Doug Ross is talking about it again, so since this important story had legs only in the Conservative Blogosphere (and barely there), (I did hear Rush mention it once in October 2008), I’ll talk about it again as well.
Look closely at the building above, on the third floor; you’ll see the word “HOPE” scrawled one letter in each of four windows. The “H” is behind the tree, then the building juts back and you can see the “O,” “P,” and “E.”
Bill Ayers and Barack Obama shared an office. Ayers’ Small Schools Workshop, the one Obama directed all that money to is located at 115 S. Sangamon Street, Chicago, Illinois 60607.
The following is verification of the Small Schools Workshop, which VerumSerum captured from the page footer:
In 1998, the address for the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, where Obama presumably worked, was 115 S. Sangamon Street, Chicago, Illinois 60607. Here’s a copy of their 1998 tax return with that address:
The CAC moved to a new address sometime in 1999 or 2000, but the shared office probably persisted for at least three years. I can’t say for sure because 1998 is the earliest tax information available online. [Correction: I can say for sure that they shared the same building for the years 1995-1998. Here is a 1995 progress reportfrom the CAC with the same address.]
Note that Obama was elected to the Illinois State Senate in 1996, but continued with a couple of CAC initiatives. Here is how the Chicago Annenberg Challenge and the Small Schools Workshop worked (from my previous post):
The University of Illinois released documents yesterday that propelled this conversation forward. Barack Obama and Weatherman terrorist Bill Ayers, who spent a number of years on the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted List, were the leading powers behind a massive educational reform for the city of Chicago.
Then Secretary of Education, William Bennett stated that the Chicago educational system was the worst in the Nation.
William Ayers prepared the proposal that got the seed money for the education reform program that would become the Chicago Annenberg Challenge – some $50M from the Annenberg Foundation, which was then matched by philanthropists and business interests – to total over $100M for Chicago’s failing school system.
With the money came the need for a organization – hence the Chicago Annenberg Challenge (CAC) was formed. The Chairman of the Board was Barack Obama. William Ayers was an ex-officio board member.
The two attended meetings together…how often is not yet known.
Obama and Ayers presided over a very powerful political duo: The CAC headed by Obama and The Collaborative, co-chaired by Ayers.
It allegedly worked like this: “Programs” would apply to the CAC for an educational grant. Some programs were chosen, and others were not. Before the CAC was disbanded, almost all, if not all, of the monies were spent.
During Obama’s time as Annenberg board chairman, Ayers’s own education projects received substantial funding. Indeed, during its first year, the Chicago Annenberg Challenge (CAC) struggled with significant concerns about possible conflicts of interest. With a writ to aid Chicago’s public schools, the Annenberg challenge played a deeply political role in Chicago’s education wars, and as Annenberg board chairman, Obama clearly aligned himself with Ayers’s radical views on education issues. With Obama heading up the board and Ayers heading up the other key operating body of the Annenberg Challenge, the two would necessarily have had a close working relationship for years.
From my previous post Why the Obama-Ayers Connection Matters:
The Chicago Annenberg Challenge (CAC) was phased out in 2001, after Obama and Ayers had spent the money, many times on nothing whatsoever to do with improving Chicago’s failing schools. The CAC became the Chicago Public Education Fund. Obama served on the Board’s Leadership Council for approximately, along with Bill Ayers’ father, Thomas Ayers, and Ayers’ brother John.
In addition to the CAC, Obama and Bill Ayers co-chaired “A clearing-house for ideas, for resources…” known as the Collaborative for five years (1995-2000).
Can anyone really believe, with any degree of honesty, that Ayers was “just a guy” in Obama’s “neighborhood?”
