The following is a loose transcript of the first ten minutes of Congressman Allen West at CPAC 2012. Video below has about another 10 – 20 minutes left, I think.
You can’t give a person more thank he’s earned without leavin some with less than he’s earned ~ Allen West
He thanks the crowd for the GOP House majority, the largest ever conservative conference they have ever seen. We have 87 new Freshmen – an historic achievement. You closed the gap in the US Senate…
Begin my loose partial transcript:
You said you would not allow your country to be cast into a perpetual dust, nor remain silent while the sun set on the ideals of American exceptionalism. And I too had to endure the politics of ugliness, because the Liberal Progressive agenda offers no viable solutions for our republic.
Countless name calling, saying that you are a member of an All-White Motorcycle Gang. Being called the Worst Person in the World 5 or 6 times, and he got fired for it.
Having your personal, very dear friends, such as South Florida Talk Show host, Joyce Kaufman attacked.
The DCCC has already started running attacks ads against me, and I had only been barely sworn in about 35 days. The Cook Political Report said I was one of the most vulnerable Congressmen, even before I had been sworn in. This past week, the Politico said I was one of the top most vulnerable Representatives.
Well, I gotta tell you something. Standing here before each and everyone of you, I don’t feel so vulnerable.
How is it that we, this past year, stood against such a vile onslaught. It’s simple. I go to Isaiah Chapter 54, Verse 17 where it states “No weapon formed against you shall prosper. Every tongue that rises against you in judgement, you shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servant of the Lord.” that’s where faith comes in – being so important.
But even more important than your faith, is an oath that each of us believe in. It’s an oath that I took for the first time on the 31st of July, 1982 as a young Second Lieutenant at the University of Tennessee. It’s an oath that I took again on the 5th of January 2011. It’s an oath that has no statute of limitations. It’s an oath that we pledge that we will lay down our lives for this great Constitutional Republic.
Last year on this stage I gave the oath to be a guardian of the conservative principles and values that make America the greatest nation that the world has ever known.
I believe today that we are standing on the verge of the dawn of a new America, if we adhere to those fundamental conservative principles, and those Constitutional ideals.
See, Conservatism is the interaction between life, society and governance to promote the advancement of the individual by adhering to the basic Constitutional Republic principle of Liberty.
Alexis de Tocqueville said “while democracy seeks equality in liberty, socialism seeks equality in restraint and servitude.
Abraham Lincoln once asked the question: what is Conservatism? Is it not the adherence to the old and tried the new and untried.”
I would say this if President Lincoln were standing here today: Liberal Progressivism evolved after our Constitution. It has been tried. It has repeatedly failed all over the world. So why would we think that it could be successful here?
Today, let us be reminded of the pillars of conservatism, which will lead us to the new dawn of a new America:
1) Effective and Constitutional Government, for Thomas Jefferson said “my reading of history convinces me that most bad government results from too much government.” Therefore, let me ask you a simple question: Do you believe that America can survive as a bureaucratic nanny state? [audience says ‘no.’]
The framers of our Constitution had one clear intent – putting a restraining order on big government. Fiscal conservatism is a derivative of Constitutional government which understands its right and proper mandates, and that’s why next week, we are going to cut $100 BILLION of spending off of the federal budget…
End of partial transcript.
There is much more, but I’m out of time. Watch the video. I left off at about the 10 minute mark. Thanks to Say Anything Blog
