Oscar Ortega-Hernandez is sought for shooting at the White House last Friday. A bullet hit an unidentified “exterior window” of the White House, and was stopped by “ballistic glass.” Another bullet was found on the White House grounds, and an assault rifle was “recovered.” Witnesses heard shots and “speeding vehicles.” Authorities said Ortega-Hernandez is one of the 99% (…just kidding).
UPDATE 11-16-11: Hernandez was arrested in Pennsylvania and is in custody.
U.S. Park Police have an arrest warrant for Oscar Ortega-Hernandez, who is believed to be connected to the earlier incident. He is described as a 21-year-old Hispanic man, 5 feet 11 inches tall, 160 pounds, with a medium build, brown eyes and black hair. Source
UPDATE 9:00am CDT: ABC News is saying Hernandez, 21, is from Idaho, is believed to be mentally ill. Has had run-ins with the law, including for domestic violence and drug charges. Police think he is armed with an assault rifle, and he is considered a danger to Barack Obama.
At 9:30 p.m. Friday, police received reports of shots fired in the bustling area of 16th street and Constitution Ave.
Authorities would later find a car in the area. The suspect had fled, but what police discovered inside the vehicle left them deeply concerned: an assault style rifle and empty shell casings.
Police linked the car to Ortega and have been hunting him ever since.
It’s unclear whether Ortega is capable of launching a sophisticated attack, but police are still fearful of what he might do next.
Authorities suspect Ortega has been in the area for weeks, coming back and forth to the Washington Mall. Before the shooting, he was detained by local police at an abandoned house. U.S. Park police say Ortega may have spent time blending in with Occupy D.C. protesters. Source.
Glenn Beck is on radio this minute. He says the two rounds of ammo found were fired on separate days.
