Isn’t this sweet. Penn State’s Jerry Sandusky, charged with 40 counts of sexual abuse against minors, AND, out on a very small bail, scores an interview with Bob Costas! This gives Sandusky a nationwide forum on NBC News tonight. Even a child predator can make use of connections in high places. Sandusky told Costas he “shouldn’t have showered with those boys,” or “horsed around.” But he isn’t a pedophile. I hope you will boycott the program and refuse to let him have this podium. (See a video below – it takes some time to initialize)
Creepy Update 11-15-11: In an interview with Bob Costas last night, Amendola hints that they have found one of the victims that the prosecutor (the Commonwealth) has not been able to find. Amendola says he would absolutely trust his children to be with Sandusky. Easy to say when that will never need to be proven. From the interview:
Joseph Amendola: We expect we’re going to have a number of kids, now how many of those so-called eight kids we’re not sure, but we anticipate we’re going to have at least several of those kids come forward and say, “this never happened. This is me, this is the allegation, it never occurred.” In fact, one of the toughest allegations, the McQueary violations, what McQueary said he saw, we have information that that child says that never happened. Now, grown up. Now the person is in his 20s.
“I could say that I have done some of those things. I have horsed around with kids I have showered after workouts. I have hugged them and I have touched their legs without intent of sexual contact,” said Sandusky.
When pressed by Costas about what if anything was Sandusky willing to concede that he’d done was wrong, Sandusky said, “I shouldn’t have showered with those kids.”
Remember that 28-year-old Mike McQueary saw Sandusky having anal sex with a 10-year-old in a shower on Penn State property. He told Paterno what he saw. Some reports say he told Curley and Schultz. Since, years have passed as they have all pal’ed around together. How do you slap someone on the back who did that to a child? How do you put your arm around someone who did that to a child? How do you travel together, eat together, and protect a pedophile?
Mark Madden, a Pittsburgh radio host, broke this story in April 2011 with little notice. He went through the scenarios of why Penn State would have have let Sandusky continue to intrude on the Penn State facilities.
Worst-case scenario: Sandusky is charged. Then it seems reasonable to wonder: Did Penn State not make an issue of Sandusky’s alleged behavior in 1998 in exchange for him walking away from the program at an age premature for most coaches? Did Penn State’s considerable influence help get Sandusky off the hook?
Don’t kid yourself. That could happen. Don’t underestimate the power of Paterno and Penn State in central Pennsylvania when it comes to politicians, the police and the media.
In 1999, Penn State was rid of Sandusky. His rep was unblemished, which allowed him to continue running a charitable foundation that gave him access to underage males. To be a volunteer assistant with a high school football team, thus gaining access to underage males.
Last week in the video below, Madden told WEEI’s The Dennis and Callahan Show that he thinks the whole scandal was a poorly-kept secret about college ball. He offers up a story that two “prominent journalists” are working on (mentions the word “rumor”) the angle that Sandusky and The Second Mile charity were “pimping” out boys to rich donors.
The talk about Joe Paterno’s guilt in this terrible story is still being examined on every morning and evening talk show. Can anyone deny that had any of the children been Paterno’s own, or his own grandchildren, Sandusky would be likely be dead today.
