Texas Tea Party Patriots are sponsoring a debate between presidential hopefuls Herman Cain and Newt Gingrich on November 5th. Now, that’s what I’m talkin’ about. Congressman Steve King (R-IA) will be one of the moderators. Here’s how Newt described the offer from the Texas Tea Party Patriots:
“The tea parties in the Houston area called us and said – I think in Woodlands – said they’d love to get Herman [Cain] and me to talk in a dialogue, not a debate,” Gingrich said. “And they wanted to use Paul Ryan’s plan on Medicare and Medicaid and Social Security as a base. Then have us discuss each of us, our thoughts about it, how we’d do it, what we’d approach. So it should be very creative and very positive, I think. And Herman [Cain] and I – we were talking the other night at the Des Moines [Faith and Freedom Coalition] event that we’re both looking forward to it because we think it’ll be different.” Source: CNN
This will be the first time we’ve heard Newt in-depth as the media coverage has focused on Romney, Perry and Cain. Have to hope I get to see it. So far, no network or cable has put it on their schedule.
NRO quotes Texas Tea Party spokesman Bill O’Sullivan saying, Cain and Gingrich have been the two most interesting debaters among the field. I agree with that. RebelPundit thinks this pairing and debate style is a good idea. RedState doesn’t. Weasel Zippers has some interesting comments. UPDATE: The Last Refuge loves the idea.
I’d like to see Bachmann paired with either Gingrich or Cain in a debate, but she is just a woman. Sheesh! No one can take her seriously. I’m still looking for my candidate. How about you?
