Al Qaeda Libya: Al Qaeda Flag Flies Over Benghazi Libya Courthouse

Hey, how about that Arab Spring? What a wonderful, amazing and liberating revolution it has turned out to be in Libya. Celebrates are underway  with the flag of al-Qaeda flying over the Benghazi courthouse. Sharia Law and the return of full-fledged polygamy – it doesn’t get better than that for a freedom fighter.

The Benghazi courthouse is the headquarters of the rebel fighters and the media center from which we heard about their valiant struggle every day for months. Journalist Sherif Ehelwa [sorry, I have no other information about him] says he has been there and has seen the flag fluttering in the desert air. Ehelwa took a photo and was threatened with having his tongue cut out if he spoke ill of the flag. He was told not to publish his photos. See them all here.

According to one Benghazi resident, Islamists driving brand-new SUVs and waving the black al Qaeda flag drive the city’s streets at night shouting, “Islamiya, Islamiya! No East, nor West,” a reference to previous worries that the country would be bifurcated between Gaddafi opponents in the east and the pro-Gaddafi elements in the west.

Ehelwa says Tripoli’s “military counsel,” is now led by al-Qaeda “fighter” Abdelhakim Belhaj, and..

According to a Libyan who didn’t want to be named, a special military group inside the NTC is calling on Salafi fighters with military backgrounds to join a special group fighting in the rebellion.

NATO says it will stop the bombing but may stick around to see the transition to “democracy” through to the finish. If that’s the case, NATO will have to take up permanent residence somewhere nearby because there will be no democracy. Source: DailyMail

Al Qaeda Flag Hoisted Over Benghazi, Libya!

Q: How is the US-backed Libyan revolution
    just like ObamaCare?

A: Now that it’s too late,
we get to find out what’s in it!

  • Mark DeMonbrun

As noted in the story accompanying the photos…”But none of this should be surprising.” …And I for one am sure that anyone with half a brain knew that something of this sort was bound to happen. Pretty much a non-story with more hate filled rhetoric towards the U.N., NATO, and our President’s decision to actually let a free democracy play out rather than back the “democracies of our choice” that have been imposed by the U.S. in Iraq and Afghanistan.

  • Libertarian Advocate

Not only was the result unsurprising, it was entirely predictable. Obama is Carter on Roids.

  • How about Arab Winter? Darkness and evil are driving this movement. This isn’t surprising since we didn’t know who we were helping to free in Libya.

  • Mark DeMonbrun

We didn’t know? Sure we did. We helped free the Libyan people.

That their society comprised almost entirely of Muslims will tend to shape their laws to contain Muslim thought should be no more surprising than our society comprised almost entirely of Christians shaping our laws to contain Christian thought.

Oh shucks, they are going to use aspects of and/or impose Shariah Law? What Muslim nation doesn’t? And, how different is that from The Ten Commandments being displayed in court houses and government buildings across our own land?

Islam is the second most predominant religion in the world today. And from I understand, the fastest growing. Now then, we can continue in the tradition of my Crusader g-g-g-g-g-g-g-g-g-g-?-grandfather, or we can accept that most Muslims wish us no more harm than we do they, and do our best to work with those of moderate Muslim values rather than degrade an entire religion due to the actions of a few.

    • Libertarian Advocate

Alas, its the actions of rather more than “a few”, but I get your point and in fact don’t denigrate the entire religion based on the actions of the most dogmatic interpreters of the faith. I would in fact accept your premise that the large majority of Muslims wish us non-muslims no personal harm at all, but that the faith, more than the other two principle monotheistic religions, seems uniquely prone to allowing the most vicious and maniacal to lead them. Another thing: We in the western style democracies and republics tend to live in and expect a nearly impenetrable wall of separation between church and state. In Islam, such a state of division is anathema and the prime objective is to merge church and state into an undivided all powerful entity, the Ummah. But I ramble….

      • Mark, yes, and we must stop saying Islam is a “religion.” It is a government that encompasses religion within it.

      • Mark DeMonbrun

        Libertarian Advocate…

I think we just disguise our separation better. I’ve read many commentaries both pro and con concerning the amount of influence of Christianity on our founders, and of course just yesterday the reaffirmation of “In God We Trust” as our national motto, not to mention the addition of “under God” to our Pledge of Allegiance back in the 50’s. (Interesting sidenote: The original writer was an avowed socialist.)

Anyways, it’s obvious that can no longer afford direct intervention via military force in struggling countries, and that direct intervention in the Middle East has really done little more than delay the inevitable rise of the radicals. With that in mind, the plan now seems to be back those who want freedom over tyranny while committing as little treasure as possible, and then back the player who most represents our ambitions once the tyrants are deposed….And that certainly seems like a VERY reasonable plan to me.

Thanks for the well thought out and interesting replay…..Mark
