What a way for a U.S. Vice President to talk about the Americans he serves. We are the “barbarians at the gate,” he told the AFL-CIO today in a virtual townhall. Unions are “the only non-governmental power” that can defeat them, he said. James Hoffa, President of the Teamsters calling the Tea Party Sons of Bitches might be expected from him, but certainly we didn’t expect Barack Obama to thank him for it. And note that Hoffa excludes the Tea Party from ‘working Americans.’ Liberal sites are crying foul, saying it is clear that Hoffa was urging Democrats to vote to “take us out.” See that below along with two videos below.
UPDATE 9-6-11: Hey TBogg readers from FireDogLake, thanks for visiting.
“We got to keep an eye on the battle that we face: The war on workers. And you see it everywhere, it is the Tea Party. And you know, there is only one way to beat and win that war. The one thing about working people is we like a good fight. And you know what? They’ve got a war, they got a war with us and there’s only going to be one winner. It’s going to be the workers of Michigan, and America. We’re going to win that war,” Jimmy Hoffa Jr. said to a heavily union crowd.
“President Obama, this is your army. We are ready to march. Let’s take these son of bitches out and give America back to an America where we belong,” Hoffa added.
You can see from the first video below that it has been shortened at several points, and the following is one of the comments edited out:
[Hoffa] Everybody here’s got to vote. If we go back and keep the eye on the prize, let’s take these son of a bitches out and give America back to America where we belong! Thank you very much!
To which Obama thanked him and said he was proud of [his man], James Hoffa, who knows a thing or two about being “taken out. Expected behavior or not, it’s creepy to hear Jimmy Hoffa, Jr. talking about ‘taking us out,’ even if doing it through the ballot box. Hoffa made these comments knowing Obama would follow him to the podium.
Oddly, Weekly Standard is not using the word “Tea Party,” but rather “Republicans” catching Hoffa and Biden’s wrath, but some in the Tea Party are not Republicans, and the Tea Party does not profess to be a GOP entity. I predict this will not help America’s unions and it will not help Joe Biden keep his job. UPDATE: Chris at Wyblog reminisces about the Union’s fondness for voting and the ballot box.
