What Happened 160 Years Ago This Fall – Back in 1850?

California became a state. The people had no electricity. The state had no money. Almost everyone spoke Spanish. There were gunfights in the streets.

  • Sad, but true.

    • Carl, the fact that there is nothing to dispute really does make it sad. The most beautiful of all our states (in my opinion) with more ways to attract visitors than any other state – with the best weather imaginable, 12 months a year, and they screw it up.

  • Your last sentence slayed me – thanks for the needed laugh, Maggie. Dark humor seems appropriate during these days of the “Magical Misery Tour” and “age of selective civility.”

    • ClassicFilm, I forgot to say that is came in an email. I think I would have said it differently, as I did on Facebook. Should have done so here. “Tits” is not a word that comes to my mind often, if ever:-)

  • LOL. I needed that laugh my friend.

    • Glad you like it findalis. I laughed too when I read it. It came in an email though. I can’t take credit for it.

  • You have a better memory than I do, Maggie. LOL

    • Jim, I’m just a studious person and do my homeword:-) or I’m old.

  • I’ve been at Lake Tahoes north shore on the California side… for almost three weeks.. Believe me, they still don’t speak english… believe me…
Heading back to Montana and sanity on Tuesday.. Thank GOD!!!!!

  • That is just too funny. Yes, there is a lot of Spanish spoken around here and even in our shop. I won’t comment about the anatomy of the workers, but there really is not a lot of time for hand-holding anyway. 😉
