Onyango Obama, thought to be Barack Obama’s “Uncle Omar,” has been charged with driving drunk at the wheel of an SUV in Framingham, Massachusetts. After being cheeky with the cops, he was asked if he wanted to make a call to arrange bail. Uncle Omar said he thought he’d ring-up the White House. No word if he actually tried. Uncle Omar has a previous ICE warrant and was ordered for deportment. How does that happen? ICE says you’re out of here, yet there you are back on the streets again, this time driving with a .14 blood alcohol level, when the legal limit is .08? The Judge is refusing bail and Omar is once again being held for ICE.
Onyango Obama showed up in the The London Times in 2008 in a story that identified him as Obama’s Uncle Omar along with Barack’s Aunt Zeituni – both of them in Boston illegally. Uncle Omar seems to be going by the name Obama Onyango these days.
It was Obama’s book Dreams From My Father that was the tipoff:
…a six-week search, one that would lead eventually to Boston and to Aunt Zeituni. Public record searches found traces of O. Onyango Obama, Uncle Omar’s real name, in Boston. A friend and a former landlady said that he now uses the name Obama Onyango.
In the course of searching for Uncle Omar The Times found a Zeituni Onyango, who also played a prominent part in Mr Obama’s book.
The Times of London article, dated November 3, 2008 said Uncle Omar was never found, (perhaps until now) but someone was lying long and hard to hide Aunt Zeituni.
The Times called the Zeituni Onyango in Boston three times. The first time a woman said that she “went to California”. The second time a woman said: “She died last summer.” The third time a woman said in French that she did not know her at that address.
On visiting the housing estate, however, neighbours confirmed that she was indeed the “Auntie Zeituni” in Mr Obama’s book – as she eventually confirmed herself.
In March 2010 in a closed court, Aunt Zeituni was granted asylum. What she needed protection from, in order to ask for asylum, has never been explained. Aunt Zeituni has been living in public housing since about 2,000. Uncle Omar was evicted, at least once, by the Boston Housing Court. Zeituni and Omar are Barack Obama’s grandfather’s children by his third wife. Uncle Omar reportedly wrote a letter to Ebony magazine. I have no idea if this is a true story, but you can read it here.
Uncle Omar has a previous federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) warrant for his arrest and was ordered for deportment back to Kenya. A judge did not set bail and Onyango Obama is being held on the ICE Warrant.
