Treasury: Okays Bill to Protect Social Security Checks if No Debt Limit Raise

Senator Bill Nelson (D-FL) has legislation prepared to give the Treasury the go-ahead to issue Social Security checks if the debt ceiling is not raised by August 3rd (or whenever).

The Hill:

Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner, in a letter dated Friday, told Nelson that such a measure would give his department special authority to ensure Social Security benefits get distributed. But Geithner also stressed, more than once, the broader importance of raising the $14.3 trillion debt limit.

I guess this means the legislation is ready for a vote in the Senate if necessary.

  • Oh please. Just let it tank. Let there be pain.

For, without PAIN there can be no GAIN and no hope to light a call to arms!

There has to be a PRICE to the stupidity of the American electorate.
