Most Patriotic States Based on Payouts to Veterans

The Daily Beast has a unique way of reporting “news,” and not to disappoint, their method of choosing the 20 Most Patriotic States is unique as well. The Beast looked at the top 20 states for voter turnout, and paired them with the average dollar amount paid out in veteran compensations, including medical care and education, and came up with the “Most Patriotic.”

No. 1 is Maine, with a 62% voter turnout, 13% of veterans among the adult population, spending $5.37 per veteran.

No. 2 is Alaska, with a 56% voter turnout, 15% of veterans among the adult population, spending $4.67 per veteran.

No. 6 is South Dakota with a 57% voter turnout, 12% of veterans among adult population and spending $6.35 per veteran.

No. 20 is Alabama with a 50% voter turnout, 11% of veterans among adult population and spending $5.35 per veteran.

Among the 20, Delaware placed at No. 16 and spent the least per veteran, $3.58.

Among the 20 “Most Patriotic” states considered Blue states are:
Maine, New Hampshire, Minnesota, Oregon, Vermont, Wisconsin, Iowa, Delaware

Among the 20 “Most Patriotic” states considered Red states are:
Alaska, Montana, Wyoming, Virginia, Idaho, Alabama
