Last night as this news broke, we were told that Osama bin Laden died one week ago, that DNA testing had eventually confirmed his death and his body was in the custody of the U.S. This morning we learn he died in the wee hours of the morning, May 2, 2011 Pakistan time, and May 1st, May Day 2011 in the U.S. Two videos below, the first Jennifer Griffin tells about the burial, how the operation went down and the decisions NOT to give Islam an opportunity to make a monument to his burial. The second is Obama’s address to the nation.
The operation was conducted by the Navy Seals, and after DNA confirmation of the identity, the terrorist was buried at sea. Last night we heard the President say that Osama bin Laden died yesterday, May 2nd in Pakistan, even though all early reports said he died one week ago. At about 4 minutes in, Obama says “Today (May 1st US time), at my direction the United States launched a targeted operation against that compound in Abottabad Pakistan, a small group of Americans carried out the operation…”
Jennifer Griffin says bin Laden was shot in the forehead. Our Seals entered the compound and briefly gave bin Laden the opportunity to surrender. There was a huge fire fight. An American Blackhawk helicopter landed at the compound, and due to a lack of air for the helicopter to rise again, our military blew it up, leaving nothing behind. They took photographs to use as proof of the death. Twenty-four Navy Seals took part in the operation, and the raid lasted 49 minutes.
“The Americans want to humiliate Muslims through this burial, and I don’t think this is in the interest of the U.S. administration,” said Omar Bakri Mohammed, a radical cleric in Lebanon.
A U.S. official said that the burial decision was made after concluding that it would have been difficult to find a country willing to accept the remains. There also was speculation about worry that a grave site could have become a rallying point for militants…
U.S. President Barack Obama said the remains had been handled in accordance with Islamic custom, which requires speedy burial.
But the Lebanese cleric Mohammed called it a “strategic mistake” that was bound to stoke rage.
In keeping with Muslim tradition (which was strictly followed by the Seals) the terrorist was be buried at sea before 4 pm May 2 in Pakistan. This minute it is 8: p.m. May 2nd, 2011. All Islamic traditions were carried out – meaning our poor Seals or someone in the Navy had to wash the man’s body before dumping him overboard. Can anyone explain why Osama bin Laden’s should receive the privilege of such care?
Fox News’ Jon Scott says his son is a newbie at West Point and the school broke out in huge celebration.
