A Vacation and One Million Hits

Hubby and I have just returned from a two-week golf/beach vacation at Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. I know, I know…it’s Mexico, but this is our 16th straight year to visit, and so far, Cabo has none of the drug violence seen on the mainland. The day after arriving, at 7:29 pm Tulsa time, my blog received it’s one millionth visitor from Puerto Rico for this 2010 article. I had passed a million page views some time ago, with about 1,300,000 that night.

I posted my first blog on January 17, 2007 during a huge snow storm. As I recall, we didn’t leave the house for days – most unusual for this area. My first post was on the sentencing of Border Patrol Agents Ramos and Compean. It was the first of many on these two American heroes that the Bush administration treated so appallingly. On my third post I was taken to task by a commenter who felt I was rude in a comment I made about Nancy Pelosi. We discussed it, and I believe “Robyne” may still be a reader today.

On July 4th of the same year I was forced to quit writing abruptly as a problem with my right arm escalated. I didn’t write again until March 2nd 2008 – in fact, I thought I would never blog again. Incredible bloggers and great friends posted and kept Maggie’s Notebook going. I can never repay Barb Sowell at FaultlineUSA, Stanford Matthews at Blog@MoreWhat, Susan Duclos at Wake up America and Jim Simpson at Truth or Consequences.

The next year in January, I took another semi-hiatus and wrote for another site. By June I found my blogosphere sea legs and came back to Maggie’s Notebook full time.

Many bloggers have reached their million hits in far less than time than I, but whenever it happens it is a milestone. It happened to me in Mexico and we celebrated with a margarita, of course.

I fully expect the second million to happen in far less time.

Thank you, thank you to all visitors and commenters who have stopped by and joined in the conversation, and have sent tips because you care deeply for this country.

Thank you, thank you to the fabulous bloggers I have met in cyberspace over the years who have encouraged and excited me with their words, and sent readers my way.  I have learned so much from awesome Conservative writers (see just a few below the photos). It’s odd how well you get to know a person by what he/she writes day-in-and-day-out. It’s not easy to be ‘what you are not,’ when constantly talking politics.

It’s hard to describe the satisfaction that comes with knowing someone is reading your work, and obviously, there is no reason to do this if no one reads.

  • Congrats Maggie…One of the best blogs out there and there are many. Our vacation next Feb. is Cabo also, we have never been there and are really looking forward to it.

    • Randy, thanks for the sweet comment. If I can pass on any info on the Cabo area, I always love to do so. Let me know if I can help.

  • Congrats, Maggie.

  • I feel like I know you, too, Maggie. Congrats on topping 1 million. You deserve it. High quality, consistent writing. And an unerring political feel for the pulse of the American Heartland.

    • Opus, thank you, thank you!

  • Congratulations on this wonderful milestone!
We were in Cabo last fall for the first time and it is beautiful. Glad you had a nice trip.
Thanks for the link, too. Keep up the good work!

    • TCL, thanks so much for coming by. I think I remember that you were in Cabo. I haven’t been there in the Fall but was there once the second week in December. It is a very sweet place when it is all “Christmas-ey.”

  • Wow … one million! Thanks for sharing your past history; and thank you for not giving up. If you had, well I would have missed a lot of fine, heart felt writing, information and caring for where our country is heading. Maggie … you make a difference. And thank you for your link to my Christian blog … you’re a blessing.

    • Carl, comments like these bring me to tears. We all want to make a difference, don’t we? Meeting people like you and everyone commenting here is a huge bonus for spending time on the computer.

  • Congratulations Maggie! As Randy said you have one of the best sites going. Keep up the great work!

    • Thank you so much John!

    • You are most welcome for the link, LD. Thanks for coming by and sharing my excitement.

  • congratulations maggie! the pictures are beautiful. you’re shared with us a kind and heartfelt post. keep writing! btw, mexico? who’da thunk it? i may have to reconsider 😉

    • Hey namaste, yes Cabo is not what we normally think of as “Mexico.” When we began going there was one two-lane highway and dirt roads to our hotel. Thank you for coming by!

  • Very cool, and congratulations!

  • Dixie

Congrats!!!! So proud of you for achieving this milestone and so grateful for your dedication to researching and writing the truths that are happening in our country and globally. Great pictures too! Dixie

    • Dixie, I so appreciate you as a reader. Thank you!

  • Woo Hoo! A well-deserved milestone for one of the great broads!

May your second million be a masculine million.

    • Bob, A masculine million sounds great to me! I’ll do it without performance enhancing drugs. Thank you so much for that wonderful post you did for me. I showed hubby and he loved it.

  • Adriennes’s site sent me 🙂
How do you count the hits or does Word Press do it?..

    • Carol, I use Sitemeter mainly, but Statcounter also. It counts both a hit and the entire number of pages viewed.

  • Congratulations Maggie! What a terrific milestone. (I may reach a million hits on my millionth birthday.) Keep up the fight!
