On the Girls Night Out “Superstar Women of Country” broadcast many Oklahomans waited for Carrie Underwood’s performance of How Great Thou Art. We had some bad weather around but it all cleared by the time the show aired. Now it was time for Carrie and Vince Gill, both Oklahomans, and our local station cut to a refinery fire…and stayed there. See the video below.
Ashamedly, there were probably more than a few heated words hurled across the state as we awaited one of the most magnificent hymns, one of the most beautiful praise and worship songs, of all time.
Missing Carrie Underwood isn’t something we Okies want to do, and the local news channel received a ton of email and phone calls. But the video is out, and it is the full version of Carrie’s time on the show. Vince Gill introduces her and sings her first No. 1 hit, Jesus Take the Wheel. He does a superior job with the song. Just think about it, this young woman sang Jesus Take the Wheel and it became a No. 1 huge hit. How often do you see a first hit be spiritual, and not just spiritual, but sung in the name of Jesus Christ.
If you are short on time, Carrie comes on at 7:32 minutes in and How Great Thou Art begins. Watch it all the way through the song because the second half is a bit different from the first, and Vince Gill’s guitar solo is so very beautiful.
