Carrie Underwood Vince Gill: How Great Thou Art Video: Two Okies Bring the House Down

On the Girls Night Out “Superstar Women of Country” broadcast many Oklahomans waited for Carrie Underwood’s performance of How Great Thou Art. We had some bad weather around but it all cleared by the time the show aired. Now it was time for Carrie and Vince Gill, both Oklahomans, and our local station cut to a refinery fire…and stayed there. See the video below.

Carrie Underwood

Ashamedly, there were probably more than a few heated words hurled across the state as we awaited one of the most magnificent hymns, one of the most beautiful praise and worship songs, of all time.

Missing Carrie Underwood isn’t something we Okies want to do, and the local news channel received a ton of email and phone calls. But the video is out, and it is the full version of Carrie’s time on the show. Vince Gill introduces her and sings her first No. 1 hit, Jesus Take the Wheel. He does a superior job with the song. Just think about it, this young woman sang Jesus Take the Wheel and it became a No. 1 huge hit. How often do you see a first hit be spiritual, and not just spiritual, but sung in the name of Jesus Christ.

If you are short on time, Carrie comes on at 7:32 minutes in and How Great Thou Art begins. Watch it all the way through the song because the second half is a bit different from the first, and Vince Gill’s guitar solo is so very beautiful.

  • Thank you Maggie for posting both of these songs … I too missed the TV show. May God bless …

  • Good stuff, Maggie

    Okies are OK by me!

Thanks, Maggie. I don’t mind as much if there is a loss of life, or a danger of it ,when they cut away for things like fires but they way overdo it.

Thank you for sharing. A truly beautiful performance of an inspirational song.
I particularly love the fact that the audience gives the performance a standing ovation at 12:20.
Praise God from who ALL blessings flow.

  • wonderful, wonderful. thank you for sharing.

  • Both songs are wonderful and Carrie Underwood sings with an attitude. She is something else, for sure.

  • Lovely. I always get choked up when I hear Jesus Take the Wheel. I’ve never heard her sing How Great thou Art before. Thanks! As for local TV stations, we had some t-storms and flash flooding here today. They stayed on it for the entire 1 1/2 hour newscast. No other news, just that.

I’ve listened to Vince and Karie’s rendition of “How Great Thou Art” many times and still get moved. I felt she sang from the heart and the words moved me. You can see the audience was moved also. Powerful! Praise God!

  • Thanks for the auspicious writeup. It in fact was once a amusement account it. Glance complicated to more added agreeable from you! By the way, how can we keep in touch?
