The Government Accounting Office (GAO) says California’s criminal alien inmates have been arrested on an average of SEVEN times, and 25% of the 102,795 incarcerated illegals (a number which is sharply up) are imprisoned for drug offenses. Writer Michael Doyle speculates that the growing number of inmates should help secure MORE FEDERAL REIMBURSEMENT DOLLARS. Can anyone tell me why taxpayers should pay for California’s illegals, or any state’s illegals? Does every state claim federal reimbursement dollars for their imprisoned illegals?
The notoriously luxurious and flamboyant California spends $34,000 per inmate, per year for incarceration. By contrast, Texas spends $12,000. If I understand this chart correctly, the poverty line for a single person in the U.S. is an income of $10,890 annually but California is spending three times that much for the care and feeding of a criminal. Something about that just isn’t fair. California needs to hire Arizona’s Sheriff Joe Arpaio as an expert consultant.
Several other states and some cities have gone to great lengths to squeeze money from inmates.
In Arizona’s Maricopa County, which includes Phoenix, Sheriff Joe Arpaio calls himself America’s toughest sheriff. Earlier this year, he said inmates would be charged $1.25 per day for meals. His decision followed months of food strikes staged by convicts who complained of being fed green bologna and moldy bread.
In January 2011 there was a report that Los Angeles County was dead broke and they were spending $600,000,000 annually for the county’s illegal children. There is an average of 40 illegal children in every classroom in LA County.
Fox News’ Megyn Kelley and Stuart Varney had a discussion about the consequences: Megyn asked, how do we tell an illegal child we cannot help him/her due to the parent’s illegal actions?Varney asked how we tell the child of legal parents how we cannot help her/him because of what someone else’s illegal parents did.
Just a thought here, but wouldn’t you think there would be no illegal alien crime if there were no illegal aliens?
The federal government should fine the state of California for acting as an illegal immigrant magnet.
