Rule 5 Saturday Night: The Dictator’s Wives

This Rule 5 proved very difficult, but interesting to put together – a Rule 5 with a little history. Each of the countries are predominantly Muslim.

For a traditional Rule 5 see my latest featuring Jennifer Lopez.

Rule 5 posts have to do with pretty girls or beautiful women – whichever you prefer. RS McCain at The Other McCain says I will undoubtedly get a million hits if I join Rule 5′ers, and mix it up a little bit with Rules 1, 2, 3, and 4, because only a few can handle all politics, all the time.

See links to my friends who have Rule 5 beauties up as well below the photos. I’ll be updating throughout Sunday as I find more Rule 5s for you.

I hope you enjoy my eighth Rule 5, but if this isn’t your cup of tea, just browse through my homepage for 22 current articles, some that may be of interest.

Mehriban Aliyeva – Azerbaijan

Dictator of The Republic of Azerbaijan – Ilham Aliyev

Mehriban Aliyeva is a Syrian Sunni Muslim born in London. Azerbaijan uses state-authorized police abuse to torture. The country is ranked “not free.” WikiLeaks revealed senior diplomats chatting about her cosmetic surgery, and more. From the Guardian, the cable describes how Mehriban and her daughters greeted Lynne Cheney with “exquisite bitchiness.”

Despite being an MP, the president’s wife appears “poorly informed about political issues”, US diplomats tell Washington. Her family’s vast business interests, meanwhile, include several banks, an insurance company, construction, travel, and – so far – Azerbaijan’s only Bentley dealership. Her collection of contemporary art forms the basis of Baku’s new museum of modern art, the cable adds.

Mehriban Aliyeva

Haya Bint al-Hussein – Dubai

Dictator of Dubai

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Makotum

Haya is the “Best known of the “Junior Wives.” She is the daughter of the deceased King Hussein of Jordan, and is the half-sister of the Jordan’s King Abdullah II. She graduated Oxford with a BA in Philosophy, Politics and Economics. The Sheikh’s “senior wife” is also his first cousin through her mother and his second cousin through his father. The Sheikh and his cousin have 12 children, but he has a total of 21 “official” children.

Dubai is considered one of the most liberal countries in the Middle East, but freedom of speech and freedom of press are very limited. There is no free speech about the government and ruling families, who also appoint and license the press. Dubai’s illegal sex industry thrives, including abuse and sexual exploitation of children, although the industry is officially banned.

Haya bint Al Hussein

Rania al Yassin – Jordan

Dictator – The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan

King Abdullah II

Rania al Yassim was born in Kuwait to Palestinian parents (in essence, a commoner). She graduated the American University in Cairo. Before her marriage she was banker for Citibank, and for a short time worked for Apple Computers in Amman. On paper, Jordan scores fairly high on democratic ideas, as compared with most of the Middle East, but women’s rights are poor, freedom of press is lacking, torture is legal in Jordan.

Rania al Yassin - Jordan

Sheikha Mozah bint Nasser Al Missned – Qatar

Dictator of Qatar – Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifah al Thani

Mozah is considered a power-house in Qatar politics. She has been named No. 74 on Forbes’ 100 Most Powerful Women list. She is on the board of Overseers for Weill Cornell Medical College. Mozah is Sheikh’s second wife of three. His first wife is his second cousin. They have 8 children. Mozah. Hamed and Mozah have 7 children. In all the ruler has 21 children acknowledged.

Nothando Dube – Swaziland

Dictator of Swaziland – King Mswati

Nothundo is Mswati’s 12th wife of 14. Human Rights in Swaziland are few. police torture and beatings are common. Women and children have no rights. Freedom of speech and press are greatly restrictd.

Nothundo is recently in the news for sleeping with his minister of justice. Minister Mamba is currently in custody. Nothando was 16 years old when the King married her and made her one of his queens. At the time of the marriage, the King had a 17 year old daughter. Swaziland is Africa’s last absolute monarch. When Mswati’s father died, he had 70 wives. Mswati III instituted a “time honored chastity rite,” encouraging all Swazi “maidens” to abstain from sex for five years. The “encouragement” was actually a ban, which he broke two months later when he married his 13th wife when she was 17 years old. He has 23 children.

Nothando Dube - Swaziland

Asma al-Assad – Syria

Dictator of Syria – Bashar al-Assad

Asma Assad is a Syrian Sunni Muslim born and raised in London. Bashir al-Assad and his government represent the Ba’ath Party (Saddam Hussein was a member of Ba’ath). He is harshly criticized for the lack of human rights, his sponsorship of terrorism and corruption.

Asma Al-Saad - Syria

Leila Trabelsi bin Ali – Tunisia

Former Dictator – Zine El Abidine Ben Ali

Leila and her husband fled Tunesia on January 14, and his entire government resigned, and some also fled. Leila was active in women’s right’s issues in the Middle East and was president of the Arab women Organization.  She reportedly took 1.5 “tonnes” of gold from the central bank when she and her family fled to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, where she will find no human rights. An Interpol arrest warrant has been issued. Six additional family members left the country with the the couple, and Interpole is looking for them as well. The uprising in Tunisia drew attention to the lack of civil rights, including Ben Ali thumbing his nose at Human Rights organization, and instituting an amendment that called for a 5-year (at least) prison term for anyone deemed to “harm Tunisia’s vital interests.”

Suzanne Mubarak – Egypt

Former Dictator – Hosni Mubarak – Egypt

Suzanne Mubarak’s father was Egyptian. Her mother is/was British of Welsh descent. She studied at American University in Cairo, and later received a masters in in Sociology. She was the Honoray president of Rotary Clubs of Egypt, and received the coveted Paul Harris fellowship several times. In the news this week is the ouster of her husband as president of Egypt, charged with the people of oppression and abuse. It has been reported that she left Egypt for London when the protests escalation, but also reported to be in exile with her husband in the Sinai.

  • Moroccan

How about a list of first ladies from the two-party dictatorship of the US?

What country committed a genocide against the original natives (native Indians) and refuses to recognize that? The US
What country enslaved millions of its citizens until the 60s? The US
What country dropped two nuclear bombs on civilian cities and brutally burned to death 200,000 civilians including thousands of children? The US
What country killed and napalmed 3 million civilians in Vietnam? The US
What country continue to kill people for oil? The US
What country that toppled many governments to secure its own interests? The US

The US is nothing more than a violent, brutal and racist neo-Nazi state wrapped in propaganda.

It is the country that is most hated on the planet.

The only reason this oppressive imperialist state thrives is because it has bigger weapons.

    • Anna Flore

Totally agree Moroccan. I’m European and I would also mention the happenings of 9/11 as one event in history that could have been avoided had the US government not planned to let thousands of lives perish. It is clear from research and statements and documents that have been found, that this was all one huge counter-attack on their own kind. In other words, to the US, civilians like you and me are simply livestock.Numbers. Not really worthy of living unless we make them some serious money. Something that makes my blood boil everyday.

In addition to what Moroccan has so rightly pointed out, the land of freedom, also known as the USA, is currently pressing for so many bans. The NYC smoking outdoors ban, the NYC salt on food ban. The US doesn’t offer free health care to its tax-paying citizens. House-owners in the US pay tax on their own home, which comes out to more that getting a loan in the long run.I’d been to the US on holiday and met a few Americans that were of the opinion their New York life was fabulous, despite them paying through the nose for basic needs, and being obsessive consumers of absolute rubbish, to the point they cannot pay their mortgages and have their homes repossessed. People who’s government makes them oblivious to what is going on around them, and regardless of their poor incomes and loan repayments, keep spending irrationally and buying whatever their tv is selling. I felt pure pity for these poor souls. No ethics, no consciousness. They didn’t intend to be evil, they were simply unaware. To be ignorant is the most dangerous thing one can be.

Let’s face it, we’re commoners and they’re purely gluttonous. It’s a shame on the flag of so-called ‘freedom and democracy’ to dictate irresponsibly. We’re merely pawns in the hands of kings with nuclear arms. Dictatorship can be a very clever thing, disguising itself as the granny, when it really is the wolf under the pastel – colored garments. So yes, how about the first ladies of the above-mentioned states?

And if you, for a split second, felt shame in thinking that your concerns and judgment of the US government cannot be correct because you yourself are a US citizen, I leave you with a sound, sensible and honest quote – one you should remember for the duration of your lifetime.

“To question your government is not unpatriotic — to not question your government is unpatriotic, … America owes its men and women in uniform a policy worthy of their sacrifices.”
      – Chuck Hagel

    • Kenneth

      Dear Moroccan,

You ought to learn something about the history of your own country: it was built on slavery. Your Sultan’s armies captured hundred of thousands of African slaves from Mauritania & Senegal. Thousands of European ships were taken by Moroccan pirates and their crews enslaved. It was the British & the Americans who put a stop to the Moroccan slave industry. Slavery is still common in Mauritania, Niger, Sudan, Chad, Mali and so on.

No 3 million people were napalmed in Vietnam. More Vietnamese civilians were killed by the Communst North Vitenamese. More Vitenamese were killed in fighting after the US left, when the North broke the Paris Peace Paln they signed and invaded the South.

And if you want to talk invasion & genocide, how about the original people of Morocco who were invaded and conquered by the Arabs?

If the US is killing people for oil, why did the US give the Iraqis a democratic constitution which guarantees the oil belongs to Iraq?

  • Mr. Morocco…

“What country committed a genocide against the original natives (native Indians) and refuses to recognize that? The US”

R – You might want to check in with the French, Spanish, and of course, the British, who were killing American Indians long before the US existed. You might want to look up the definitions of “genocide” (which the American Indian wars were not) and “ethnic cleansing” (which those wars very much were, like most wars of that time). In 1948 there an estimated 265,000 Jews in Morocco, now there are less then 12,000. If there is a God, you will answer for that Mr. Morocco, yes you will.

“What country enslaved millions of its citizens until the 60s? The US”

R – Do you mean the 1860’s? Do you know that the Muslim majority northern Sudan still practices slavery to this day?

“What country dropped two nuclear bombs on civilian cities and brutally burned to death 200,000 civilians including thousands of children? The US”

R – Gee, maybe that Pearl Harbor thing and that Rape of Nanking thing was a really bad idea after all?

“What country killed and napalmed 3 million civilians in Vietnam? The US”

R – Long after the last US soldier left South Vietnam, the Communists were still killing millions of civilians in SE Asia. Any comment on that Mr. Morocco?

“What country continue to kill people for oil? The US”

R – Every single nation that has oil, kills people for control of that oil. Every single one.

“What country that toppled many governments to secure its own interests? The US”

R – The Soviet Union toppled more nations between 1946 and 1956 then the US did in its entire first 200 years combined.

“The US is nothing more than a violent, brutal and racist neo-Nazi state wrapped in propaganda.”

R – Too bad it was the US that liberated Morocco from the Vichy French, eh? Maybe the US shouldn’t have pressured France to give up its colonies in 1956?

“It is the country that is most hated on the planet.”

R – Then stop immigrating here, please.

“The only reason this oppressive imperialist state thrives is because it has bigger weapons.”

R – We did just fine without the “bigger” weapons up until 1945. You want a piece of us, step right up to the plate. But your unelected king might not like that plan much, see Japan 1945.

R – Although Morocco is one of the most benign of Muslim majority nations, all Muslim majority nations are violent, brutal, and racist, every single one of them. Many of those violent, brutal, and racist Muslim majority nations continue to use the same old WW2 era nazi propaganda.
