Zach Osler, the high school friend of Jared Loughner a few years back, apparently works at the gun store where Jared bought the Glock 19, 9mm. According to the report on Greta’s On the Record tonight, Zach was not at work the day of the purchase, but employees who sold Loughner the gun, says they were very uncomfortable with him in the store (second video below). Zach says he stopped talking to Osler two years ago. Mr. and Mrs. Osler have known Jared fairly well. They have some vivid memories, and say Jared’s homelife was troubled. One more piece of news just released tonight, police say a pedestrian came across the black bag that Jared’s father said he saw his son leave their house with the morning of the shootings. It was described as a “black diaper bag” and a “backpack.” See Zach Osler’s father in the video below.
In 2008, the Loughner parents showed up at the Osler’s doorstep looking for their son, who had left home about a week before and broken off all contact, George Osler IV said.
Jared often spent time at the Osler’s place…
Mrs. Osler said she was struck by how unfailingly polite he was – far more so than their son’s other teenage friends.
With the Loughners at his house, Zach Osler told them the name of the local hotel where their son was staying. The Loughners were able to patch things up and Jared moved back in with his parents, Zach’s father said.
After that, the elder Osler sometimes would see Mrs. Loughner at the local supermarket, though they didn’t chat much. He recalled that every time he saw her she had at least one 30-pack of beer in her cart.
Jared’s father, Randy Loughner has not worked for many years, according to a neighbor, although he used to do some auto restoration. Amy Loughner has worked for the county since about 2002
…has been the supervisor for Roy P. Drachman Agua Caliente Park on the outskirts of the city. She earns $25.70 an hour, according to Gwyn Hatcher, Pima County’s human resources director.
There is much more to this story at The State, including how the Loughner’s are handling the horrific reality of what their son, and only child has done.
Today, police have in their possession a black bag believed to belong to Jared Loughner:
The black diaper bag, which held an unspecified amount of 9mm ammunition, was found at about 10 a.m. local time in a dry wash by an 18-year-old man walking his dog.
Jared’s father saw his son take a black bag out of the a vehicle outside the family home. Randy Loughner wanted to know what was in the bag. Jared took off walking. His father says he followed him in a car but lost him. He described the bag to police.
In the meantime, Jared called a taxi from a Circle K store to get to Gabrielle Giffords.
About 25 minutes before the confrontation with his father, Jared was stopped by police for running a red light. The officer said Jared did what was asked of him, and he had no right to search the car, although he “did a visual inspection.” So, was Jared given a ticket for running the red light, or did he did get away with breaking the law, yet another time?
