John Boehner’s Classic Snark Compared to Obama’s Stray Cats and Dogs

Senator Harry Reid (D-NV), as of today the MINORITY STILL the majority leader in the U.S. Senate, released a letter to Rep. John Boehner (R-OH) saying Democrats will block the Republican Bill to replace ObamaCare. Boehner answered with classic snark. Two videos below, one is Obama talking about the “stray cats and dogs” in ObamaCare. Do you remember this? It’s about you keeping your health care, if you choose to do so.

John Boehner Speaker of the House 112th Congress

Notice that Boehner cites the numbers and calls out those the Democrats conspired with:

Senators Reid, Durbin, Schumer, Murray and Stabenow:

Thank you for reminding us – and the American people – of the backroom deal that you struck behind closed doors with ‘Big Pharma,’ resulting in bigger profits for the drug companies, and higher prescription drug costs for 33 million seniors enrolled in Medicare Part D, at a cost to the taxpayers of $42.6 billion.

The House is going to pass legislation to repeal that now.  You’re welcome.

– Speaker-Designate John Boehner’s Press Office

If you remember Boehner’s fiery speech from the floor of the House just before the ObamaCare vote, you know he isn’t playing around. (Note that Nancy Pelosi skipped this address.) I believe this man despises the ObamaCare legislation as much of the rest of us, and there is nothing political about it. He tells Democrats they have put their will and their desires ahead of their fellow countrymen. He says Democrat “lawgivers” broke the ties of history and broke the trust with America that the People’s House has historically had….”

Boehner says when he handed Pelosi the gavel, in 2007, (remember Boehner had this job for a year before losing it to her) he said:

This is the people’s house. They minute we forget it is the minute we write the ticket to minority status. If we pass this bill [ObamaCare], there will be no turning back. In a democracy you can only defy the will of the people for so long. I beg each and every one of you on both sides of the aisle. Do not further strike at the heart of this country with arrogance for surely you will not strike with impunity. I ask each of you to vow never let this happen again. This process, this defiance of our citizens, it is not too late to begin to restore the bonds of trust with this Nation…

Boehner is the man who said he would not vote for the plan to close Gitmo “if you put a gun to my head.  See that classic snark here. He tells interviewer Candy Crowley, Congress will not appropriate one dime to bring terrorists to the U.S. (and indeed, that’s what happened. All funding for bringing terrorists to the U.S. has been defunded by Congress, but today we hear Obama may be using a signing statement to override that august body, which has so many times in the last two years, abdicated their congressional obligations to Obama’s will).

By comparison, Obama talks about “the stray cats and dogs” that got into the health care bill. Some of those strays were getting in the way of YOU AND I keeping our health care, if we choose to do so. Obama says those stray cats and dogs that got in the way of you keeping your health care, were in the process of being eliminated, but…guess what…that didn’t happen. See the second video below.

Everyone waited today to see if Boehner shed a tear while the gavel was handed to him from outgoing House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, (he didn’t), but the response above was already signed, sealed and delivered. Boehner can cry when he feels he has to, and it will be okay with me if he must, but only if the classic snark continues, and bring back the those fiery podium performances. This video is Boehner’s firery speech, and not a tear was shed – the classic snark begins at 3:30 in. Related: Political Realities has a good article on John Boehner’s Leadership Style.

  • Speaker Boehner did us proud today.

Unfortunately, Harry Reid is still Senate Majority leader… For 2 more years anyway

    • Ooooh Silver, don’t know what I was thinking. Must have been caught up in the moment. THANK YOU!. Yes he did do us proud and I pray it continues. Now if we can figure out what to do about Murkowski, Collins, Snowe, Brown and Lugar…

  • Thanks for the link, Maggie. Speaker Boehner really gets fired up, doesn’t he. As I said on my blog, I am cautiously optimistic that he will do us all a good job.

    • My pleasure LD. I think we have to be optimistically cautious, and must be for all time. I don’t think we can ever take conservative decisions for granted again.

  • I loved that speech Boehner gave about Obamacare. It’s a classic. I’m with LD, cautiously optimistic.

    • I love it to LC. As I watched it again today, it was clear that he was horrified about ObamaCare on so many levels.

  • Optimistically cautious here, I am hopeful but my faith in all elected officials is very low, it will be a long time before I trust any of them ever again and I’ll never trust any one of them completely (except maybe Allen West). politicians need to realize that they’ve betrayed Americans repeatedly and we’re not too different from wives who’ve chosen to allow a wayward spouse back into our home – we hope & pray we won’t get screwed over again but we are well aware that the possibility of another betrayal is very much a reality.

Please, speaker Boehner, do not let us down, do not waiver do not falter, failure now may mean the death of our beloved nation as we knew it, forever.

“Stray cats and dogs.” If he’d spent less time golfing, he’d have known what he signed. It’s the other stuff in the bill he’s not talking about – structure – for a permanent nanny-state.

The whole damn thing is a vampire that must be slain.
