In yet another presidential move not needing the approval of Congress, the administration has tasked the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) with finding tracts of “unspoiled” Western land to designate as “Wild Lands.” Hundreds of thousands of acres of BLM land is leased to ranchers, sportsmen and energy companies every year. Those leases may be dissolved with one presidential executive order. Obama is looking to control our water as well, and water is specifically included in the initiative. The government already owns one of every three acres in the U.S. and is after more, including private holdings.
WATER: As well as Western lands, the Obama administration has been seeking land with water…land with water to control. In May 2009 we learned that Senator Russ Feingold introduced a bill to change the there U.S. jurisdiction of America’s waters from only “navigable waters of the U.S.,” to “”waters of the U.S.”
WATERS OF THE UNITED STATES- The term ‘waters of the United States’ means all waters subject to the ebb and flow of the tide, the territorial seas, and all interstate and intrastate waters and their tributaries, including lakes, rivers, streams (including intermittent streams), mudflats, sandflats, wetlands, sloughs, prairie potholes, wet meadows, playa lakes, natural ponds, and all impoundments of the foregoing, to the fullest extent that these waters, or activities affecting these waters, are subject to the legislative power of Congress under the Constitution.
Friends, that’s your pond!
The water control legislation above is Senate Bill 787. On December 10, 2010, it was placed on the Senate Legislative calendar. There are 24 sponsors to carry this through for the neutered Russ Feingold, who will not return to the Senate. The 24 are among the marxist elite in the halls of Congress.
At a “listening session” in New Hampshire last week, government bureaucrats trained their sights on millions of acres of private forest land throughout the New England region. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack crusaded for “the need for additional attention to the Land and Water Conservation Fund — and the need to promptly support full funding of that fund.”…
The Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) is the target for greenies who are trying to get their hands on the government slush fund used to buy up land.
[Environmentalists] want the decades-old government slush fund for buying up private lands to be freed from congressional appropriations oversight.
It’s paid for primarily with receipts from the government’s offshore oil and gas leases. Both Senate and House Democrats have included $900 million in full LWCF funding, not subject to congressional approval, in their energy/BP oil-spill legislative packages.
WILD LANDS: A Bureau of Land Management memo from early 2010 gives reason to believe as many as 140 million acres of BLM land may be co-opted as Wild Lands, perhaps rendering them untouchable for cattle grazing, oil drilling, mineral mining, hiking, biking or snowmobiling.
The BLM was active in similar land grabs in the 1970’s and some of the 80’s. The state of Utah sued to keep 2.6 million Utah acres from being designated as wilderness, and the government backed-off.
Enter Barack Obama and Ken Salazar.
Senator Jim DeMint broke the story of the secret memo in March 2010, crediting a Department of Interior whistleblower:
…plans for the federal government to seize more than 10 million acres from Montana to New Mexico, halting job- creating activities like ranching, forestry, mining and energy development. Worse, this land grab would dry up tax revenue that’s essential for funding schools, firehouses and community centers.
President Obama could enact the plans in this memo with just the stroke of a pen, without any input from the communities affected by it.
At a time when our national unemployment rate is 9.7 percent, it is unbelievable anyone would be looking to stop job-creating energy enterprises, yet that’s exactly what’s happening.
Known as the “21st Century Strategy for America’s Great Outdoors,” the memo went to Salazar straight from Obama’s desk. Secret meetings with environmental groups has been underway for months. By August, 18 of 25 planned meetings had been held.
Republicans say they will open hearings on “the new policy.” Rep. Rob Bishop (R-UT) will take over the chairmanship of the House subcommittee on public lands. He says it may be possible to cut funding to the BLM for this new initiative. If you are a private property owner, now it the time to pick-up the phone again and tell Congress they will not take your land, and contact the House Subcommittee on Public Lands, ask for defunding of this initiative. Ask your friends to joing you, and make your voices loud.
