Kate Smith – O Holy Night

Kate Smith was a favorite of my parents. Her voice was pure and strong, and as the story goes, it was so until the day she died. Known as the Songbird of the South, I remember her only for singing God Bless America. She owned the anthem, written by Irving Berlin and years later revised for Kate Smith. She received the Medal of Freedom from President Ronald Reagan and Franklin D. Roosevelt introduced her to the King and Queen of England by saying “This is Kate Smith – this is America.”

Angel Announces the Birth of Christ - the Holy Night

In the video below you hear her beautiful rendition of O Holy Night. When Ms. Smith sings “Fall on your knees, Oh hear the Angel’s voices,” you know you can. In the second video below, see Kate Smith live, in 1976, singing God Bless America.

On this Holy Night I wish you and yours the sound of Angel’s voices as we celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

O Holy Night by Kate Smith

  • Beautiful version. Merry Christams, Maggie – to you and your family. It is indeed a holy night…

  • Brilliant. That made my day.
