John Boehner on 1-Page Legislation

In this video, Congressman John Boehner interviewed with Leslie Stahl on 60 Minutes. He says he will begin immediately cutting the House budget by 5% – every member in the House will see a 5% cut, every leadership budget will be cut by 5%, and every committee a 5% cut. Each week a spending program  will be cut, one-by-one, but the real news is that he pledges legislation consisting of only one page.

John Boehner

This morning Michele Bachmann on Fox News said the only question on tax extensions should be: do we want to keep taxes as they are today, or do we want to increase taxes. Note that Democrats have a provision in the current ‘tax deal’ to take all power for new Indian casino licenses from the U.S. Supreme Court and give it to Ken Salazar, the Secretary of the Interior. At the same time, Salazar can allocate tax free land for casinos. The belief is that casinos will be massively expanded.

That’s what business-as-usual-legislation creates, a pig’s trough of spending, this time courtesy of Democrats. Credit to Boehner and the new Congress if they follow through with this plan.

John Boehner on 1-Page Legislation

  • I heard them talking about this earlier on Fox News. I’d love to see a spending cut bill every week. We’ll have to see.

  • I don’t know if they can get this done or not, but it will be great if they can. That should shake things up, to say the least.

  • I don’t trust him one bit

  • One-page legislation? Now, wouldn’t that be wonderful? Earmarks and pork would get cut — big time.
