The Federal Reserve forced a small bank in Perkins, Oklahoma to remove a verse from the Bible and Christian crosses from it’s website. “Federal examiners” said the “religious decoration” was inappropriate. The good news is Senator Jim Inhofe (R-OK) and Rep. Frank Lucas (R-OK) got involved and the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City stepped in, and the website is back as it was before the feds got involved.
Inhofe and Lucas sent a letter to Federal Reserve Chair Ben Bernake saying the federal order was unconstitutional, and without precedent (and the letter was copied to the DOJ and Eric Holder):
“Mr. Chairman, in our years of public service we have seldom encountered a more alarming case of heavy-handed interpretation and enforcement of federal regulations to the exclusion of any other consideration or law, including the Supreme Law of the Land,” the two Oklahoma Republicans stated. In addition, they stated, that interpretation of a Federal Reserve regulation was applied to all religious items within customers’ view, including items in the bank lobby and even religious-themed personal jewelry.
“The bank was told that failure to comply would result in referral of the matter to the Department of Justice for further enforcement actions,” Inhofe and Lucas wrote.
If this was, indeed, without precedent, I have to ask why the feds’ antennae went up over a small bank in Perkins, Oklahoma. A guess might be that Senator Inhofe recently caused a ruckus when he refused to continue his long participation in Tulsa’s Christmas Parade of Lights, after it was renamed Tulsa Holiday Parade of Lights. I smell the Department of Justice all over this. Jim Inhofe is an inconvenient thorn in the federal-government-wide assault on the Constitution.
The feds forcing the removal of everything Christian will be a theme as long as Barack Obama is in the Oval Office, and Eric Holder heads the Department of Justice. The quick action in this case is encouraging. We must meet each assault head-on, persist and maintain to keep the federal insanity out of our every day lives. Thank you to Rep. Frank Lucas of Oklahoma’s 3rd District – another stellar conservative, and Sen. Inhofe. Thanks to the Tulsa World for the photo.
