All the King’s horses and all the King’s men couldn’t put Carolyn Kilpatrick together again. Congresswoman Carolyn Kilpatrick (D-Mich-13th) lost her primary bid with Congressional heavyweights propagandizing in overtime for the 14-term People’s Representative. Democrat challenger Hansen Clarke will now face Republican John Hauler for the People’s seat from Michigan. See a video below.
In the 72 hours before the polls opened, Democrat icons of the Black Caucus showed up for Kilpatick: Representatives James Clyburn (D-SC), Emanuel Cleaver (D-MO), Rev. Jesse Jackson and Luis Guiterriz (D-IL). Kilpatrick aligned her campaign in lockstep with Barack Obama, speaking at Government Motors, praised Carolyn as a “wonderful congresswoman.” Hansen Clarke, didn’t run a single television ads.
In the money race, Kilpatrick raised more than $1 million this cycle, and had $280,000 left in her campaign coffers on July 14, according to her Federal Election Commission report. Clarke has raised more than $130,000 and had $71,000 banked for the final stretch of the campaign.
Kilpatrick’s son, former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, is in the middle of an ever-growing corruption scandal.
