Rep. Peter King is calling for an investigation into the Ground Zero mega-mosque, as New York’s Landmarks Preservation Commission holds a hearing today on the approval of the 157-year-old site being used for a mosque. King, who represents New York’s District 3, said it is only fair that the families of victims of 9/11 know where the money is coming from. To that, New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg said it would “unAmerican” to investigate.
Opponents of the mosque believe the facility is a terrible insult to the memories of 3,000 dead at the hands of Islamic terrorists, and they want the building declared “landmark status” or historical status.
Building the ground zero mosque is not an issue of religious freedom, but of resisting n effort to insult the victims of 9/11 and to establish a beachhead for political Islam and Islamic supremacism in New York…ground zero is a war memorial, a burial ground. Respect it,” said Pamela Geller, a conservative, on her group’s website, “Stop Islamization of America.”
The mosque’s estimated cost is $1 million which which means at least $2 million. It will consist of a community center, performing arts center, gym, swimming pool and…mosque encompassed in 13 stories. The area will be flooded with Muslims answering the call to prayer, as did the terrorists as they prayed to Allah and slammed into the World Trade Towers.
