Kimberly Munley is the civilian police officer arriving first on the scene of the Fort Hood shootings. Reports this morning are that she shot Nidal Malik Hasan 4 times. See NEW update 11-07-09 below:
According to this report, Munley was directing traffic. She responded to reports of gunfire in the area with her partner. She rushed inside a building, saw Hasan rounding a corner. She was standing only “a few feet” from Hasan. She opened fire and took him down. Hasan fired on her and wounded her.
Thursday evening from the hospital, Munley was able to make phone calls. She is 34 years old and has a 3-year-old daughter.
Lt. General Robert Cone praised Sgt. Kimberly Munley’s rapid response:
It was an amazing and an aggressive performance by this police officer,” Cone said.
