Seven people in Somalia were beheaded recently for “abandoning the Muslim faith and spying for the government.” The murderers are described as “militants,” and women and children, as always in Muslim countries, are bearing the brunt of the cruelty.
This new wave of attacks are against a new government:
Western diplomats say the current transitional government of President Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed, which came to power in February, offers Somalia the best hope in years for political stability.
A spokesman for the United Nations (UN) Human Rights Council says the militants are trying to overthrow the transition government, they are holding trials, stoning, decapitating, amputating limbs, and using human shields. Aid Workers and journalists are “being directly targeted.”
